🩲Had a great week working with the swimmers that attended up in Flagstaff AZ🩲

I was privileged to work with the Elite group of swimmers over 5 days and 11 training sessions.

The effort that the swimmers put forth was inspiring.
🏔
Out of the water the group was filled with fun loving characters that really enjoyed their friends.
🏔
The experience for my son and I was exhausting but invigorating at the same time.
🏔
To be good at this sport it requires great effort and discipline, but that doesn’t mean that it can’t be fun!

I have been coaching a summer swim team for 18 years.
-
It never gets old.
-
Introducing kids to the sport of swimming and watching them grow is magical.
-
For example…
-
In less than 3 months a 9yo boy has gone from not knowing a thing about the sport, to swimming a 50 butterfly and racing with his team mates on relays.
-
An 8yo girl fell in love with the sport this summer and you can visibly see her confidence growing from month to month.
-
Organizing 110+ kids for practices and meets (along with their parents) in 110+ heat always has its challenges, but the reward is always so great.

I think it’s important to remind myself that I am not permanent. The briefness of a human life makes the moments in it much more valuable.

The new album “Unlimited Love” came out today. I have some valuable moments with their music scattered throughout my life.
-
1992: I remember staying up to watch MTV when a crazy “black and gold” music video came up. I felt uncomfortable when the camera went under the singer’s legs, but the sound they made was magic!
-
2000: I just bought my first bass guitar and had no idea what to do. bass lines on Californication helped me learn and made me feel like I could make magic too.
-
2002: my brothers and I drove to Best Buy to pick up “By The Way”. They had fallen in love with the band and now I got to share it with them.
-
2004: listening to the album “By the Way” on drives as I tried to get out of some sort of depression. Some of those songs really helped me feel ok again.
-
2007: saw the band at Coachella with my new girlfriend. She was pretty cool, so we decided to get hitched!

I am so lucky to be alive and have had these moments in my life.

The stories that inspire me the most are the ones where a leader gives someone a chance, and that someone takes the chance and makes the most of it.

Giving trust, confidence and security to others can lead them to improve not only their life, but the life of their family for generations.

All the leader is giving to the individual is just a little bit of “help”.

The “help” could be a job when no one else would hire them.
-
The “help” could be more patience with the person when everyone wrote the person off.
-
The “help” could be a simple smile, or act of kindness to someone having a crappy day.
-
I think the more we can help each other, the better our world will be.

Hope we can find a way to help just one other person today.
