Program updates -
We survived Covid, mostly. 😊
We never shut down completely as there were some individuals who still needed services, and we were able to meet the guidelines set by the health department.
Unfortunately, we did have to close and sell our program on Douglas Street. People who have attended that program are now going to our location on Plumer Street.
Now, all these months since the Covid became such a menace, we are finally returning to somewhat normal operations. We have hired back most of our staff, our programs are slowly starting to fill back up, people are getting vaccinated, life is good!
A big THANK YOU to all who have stuck with us! 💜
We do not post often but are open for questions and comments any time. The Handlers has been in operation since 1980, providing both vocational and habilitational services to developmentally disabled adults throughout Tucson.
Now that summer is finally winding down we will soon be lifting our "heat curfew" (community outings are restricted to mornings only when it's so hot outside). Our groups enjoy going out in the community at least 2 times per week, some more often than that, and some groups go out daily. They enjoy going to rescue farms, movies, parks, museums, art classes, arcades, swimming, just to name a few.
The holidays are coming up so they're soon to be busily preparing for the festivities, making decorations, gifts, etc.
Fun times for all!!!

Handlers' flower gardens
Spring has sprung at Handlers thanks to the hard work of our participants and staff! It may have been 37 degrees this morning, but the gardens are popping.
October is Down Syndrome awareness month!
It's amazing how quickly time slips away! Since July, we have been planning, coordinating, constructing, painting, and revamping. We closed our vocational workshop and converted the program area to an active DTA program. Everyone is encouraged to get out and go on a neighborhood walk, exercise, explore the community, learn about nutrition and well-being, participate in performance arts, etc. The people who are not interested in being quite so active are focusing on therapies, well being, and maintaining skills.
