Some endings are loud.
This one is tender.

We had a beautiful, fun, silly day playing with kiddos, eating yummy food, sharing stories, relationships lingering a little longer than usual. There was joy, and there was ache. Gratitude and grief sat side by side, just as they often do when a season comes to its sunset.

Because endings, change, newness, transitions are hard,
There are seasons when the light lingers late into the evening, when ministries are humming, rooms are loud, calendars are full, and the work feels endlessly possible.

Today was the last day of Saguaro Infant Care and Preschool.
And endings, no matter how faithful are hard.
Scripture tells the truth about this, even when we wish it wouldn’t. Ecclesiastes says there is a season for everything not a season for some things. A season for everything.

In 1986, Saguaro Christian Church opened what became the only infant care center on the east side of Tucson. Caring for 6 week old infants, a need that was incredibly apparent in the growing Tucson community was where SICP began.

For more than forty years, SICP has been a place where love showed up in very ordinary, holy ways, snacks and naps, songs and scraped knees, drop-offs and pick-ups, hard days and small victories. It was never just a program. It was a ministry shaped by people who believed children matter, families matter, and care is sacred work. This ministry shaped lives and formed generations.

Forty years of faithful care offered not for applause or
recognition, but because love showed up day after day and said, “This matters.”
In Scripture, forty is never just a number.
Forty years in the wilderness.
Forty days of rain.
Forty days of fasting.
Forty is long enough to be shaped. Long enough to know joy and exhaustion.

We are so sad that SICP is closing. And we are also clear: we are not celebrating a closure; we are honoring a season that has been fully lived. Everything has a season.

Faithfulness does not mean preserving every form forever. Sometimes faithfulness means trusting God enough to release what has been, with open hands and grateful hearts. We trust that God has got all of this. The endings. The unknowns. The next chapters still forming.

This Sunday Feb 1 we are holding a Sunset Celebration. Beginning casually at 11:30am for a light lunch and beginning officially at 12:30pm with the Sunset Program.

Sunsets are tricky things. They are beautiful, and if we’re honest, they ache. They ask us to hold gratitude and grief in the same breath. To say thank you and goodbye without rushing past either one.

Sunsetting a beloved ministry doesn’t mean the love disappears.
It doesn’t mean the impact evaporates.
It doesn’t mean anyone failed.
It means the Spirit is on the move, sometimes gently, sometimes painfully, but always calling the community forward.

Because here’s the thing about sunsets: they are never the final word. Every sunset carries the quiet promise of a sunrise we cannot yet see and the promise of God’s presence even still.

Thank you teachers and staff, who showed up day after day with patience, creativity, and care. Thank you to our director; Tanima whose leadership, grit, and compassion carried this ministry through changing seasons. Thank you volunteers who gave time and energy quietly and faithfully. Thank you families who trusted us with their children and welcomed this community into their lives. Thank you kiddos whose laughter, curiosity, and tiny footsteps filled these spaces with joy. And thank you Saguaro Christian Church, the board of directors and congregation, a church that dared to imagine and sustain this ministry for forty years. And to the wider community of Tucson who supported, partnered with, and believed in this work.

Each of you held a piece of this story. Each of you made this ministry what it was. And we are profoundly grateful

We will celebrate the decades of ministry that mattered.
We will share stories around tables.
We will thank God for 40 years of SICP.
We will honor the teachers, staff, and director who poured themselves out in love.
We will thank the parents, the kiddos, and the church who made this ministry what it was.
And together we will hold what comes next in prayer, trusting love and light to guide the way forward.

For the light that shone here does not disappear. It is carried forward, scattered like fireflies into the world to cover our community in love.
With gratitude and love, Pastor Kelley and Pastor Jessica

Dear Class of 2026, Parents, Volunteers, Teachers, and Saguaro Christian Church

Today, as we close the doors on a chapter and, with a mix of reflection and gratitude, acknowledge that the preschool doors are closing forever today, we pause to say thank you. This moment also marks the conclusion of the special promotion we held for our youngest learners~a celebration of their growth, energy, and bright beginnings. Though we must say goodbye for now, we prefer to think of this moment as “see you next time,” a hopeful refrain that carries us forward.

To the parents, thank you for your unwavering support, encouragement, and belief in every student’s potential. Your hands, late nights, and steady guidance have helped shape each graduate’s path. You have stood alongside us as partners in this journey, and your faith in our shared mission has made the difference between merely teaching and truly guiding.

To the volunteers, your time, kindness, and generosity have brightened our days and enriched our school community in countless ways. You’ve given more than effort; you’ve given hope, mentorship, and a mosaic of moments that have left lasting impressions on our students and on all of us who have the privilege to work with them.

To the teachers, your dedication, patience, and passion have lit the way for the Class of 2026. Thank you for challenging us to think bigger, to dream boldly, to persevere in the face of challenges, and to nurture the best in every child and each other. Your professionalism and warmth have created safe places to learn, explore, and grow.

To Saguaro Christian Church, your ministry has nurtured and guided our youngest learners with care and faith. Your role as part of the church’s ministry has woven a thread of belonging, service, and spiritual curiosity through our entire community. We are grateful for your ongoing support, for the doors you help open, and for the sense of family you’ve built around our children, families, and volunteers. You have been, and will continue to be, the light in this place.

To the Class of 2026, may your futures be bright with opportunity, courage, and compassion. Carry the lessons you’ve learned, the friendships you’ve formed, and the memories you’ve made. Remember: doors may close today, but the connections you’ve built will travel with you wherever you go. Let faith, kindness, and curiosity continue to guide you as you embark on new adventures.

As we look ahead, let us hold close a guiding verse that has encouraged us along the way:
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden.” (Matthew 5:14, NIV) May this light shine in your hearts and in your actions, illuminating your paths and drawing others toward goodness, truth, and love.

Final note from Mrs. Tanima:

Mrs. Tanima loves you, and you are always in her heart. As she often says, we don’t say goodbye; we say see you next time.

With gratitude and best wishes for your next adventures, Mrs. Tanima and Saguaro Christian Church ❤️🙏🏽🥰💫🎉💛⭐️
