Our monthly meet-ups have transformed into interviews with guild members and other professionals of our field. Join us online this month, September 10th, as we converse with John Toenjes.
Recently retired as Professor and Music Director at the University of Illinois Department of Dance, John Toenjes has written many scores for choreographers across the US and Europe. He has produced motion capture-activated dances such as Inventions Suite (2008) and smartphone-enhanced works such as K**a Begata Nihilum, featuring networked iPads and an audience app. In 2014 he established the Laboratory for Audience Interactive Technologies which designed a phone app for live performance called “MoSho.” MoSho-integrated dances include Critical Mass (2017), and Alternate Reality (2018). He now produces immersive dance experiences like the 360-degree video installation “Frame[s] of Reference” (2026) and a dance adventure game called “Master Dancer,” which is being released this fall on platforms such as STEAM and Meta.
