📣🐾 STUDENT COUNCIL CAMPAIGN WEEK IS HERE! 🐾📣
The excitement is building at Cragin Elementary!

Our Student Council candidates are ready to share their ideas, leadership, and school spirit with our Cougar community! 💙

🗣️ This week, our candidates will be visiting classrooms to introduce themselves and share why they would love the opportunity to represent their classmates.

🎥 We’ll also be sharing their Student Council campaign videos so our students and families can get to know each candidate and hear what they have to say!

👏 Be sure to cheer on our student leaders as they step up, share their voices, and show us what Cougar leadership is all about!

🐾 Good luck to all of our Student Council candidates! We are so proud of every student who had the courage to run and take on a leadership role!

📚 Weekly Library Newsletter: Making Connections

This week, students are learning how to activate prior knowledge—using what they already know, their experiences, and their ideas to better understand what they read.

Making connections helps students:

* 🧠 Understand new information more easily
* 📖 Remember and retain what they read
* 💭 Become active, engaged readers

How Parents Can Help at Home

Before and during reading, ask your child questions such as:

* Text-to-Self: “Does this remind you of something you’ve experienced?”
* Text-to-Text: “Does this remind you of another book or story?”
* Text-to-World: “Does this connect to something happening in the real world?”

Parents can also model this strategy by sharing their own thoughts and experiences while reading together.

📅 Library Schedule Update

The library will now follow a two-week cycle:

* Week 1: Interactive library lesson focused on literacy and comprehension skills
* Week 2: Book checkout and independent reading exploration

The big takeaway: When students connect new learning to what they already know, reading becomes more meaningful and helps build stronger, lifelong readers. 🌟📚
