STRENGTHENING SCHOOL SAFETY: MUSD is expanding its School Safety Officer (SSO) program, thanks to a $2.4 million grant from the Arizona Dept. of Education. The program provides an off-duty police officer on 10 additional school campuses, and this year, the majority โ 16 of 19 MUSD K-12 schools, will have a dedicated police presence on campus.
ADE considered the successful partnership of 10+ years with the Town of Marana, the Marana Police Department, and the Pima County Sheriffโs Department, that has helped increase the safety and security of campuses with the presence of School Resource Officers (SROs), school counselors, and social workers.

๐โจMUSD has expanded its transportation fleet this summer with the addition of four new charter buses, providing students and student athletes with safe, climate-controlled, and convenient travel for far-away athletic competitions, field trips, and other school-sponsored activities.
These buses were purchased using voter-approved bond funds and cost approximately $220,000 each. Built with safety, comfort, and convenience in mind, each bus includes:
46-passenger seating capacity, two-person bucket seats with seat belts
High-powered rooftop A/C (360,000 BTU)
Overhead interior luggage trays
Under-storage compartments
USB Charging ports for electrical devices
ABS brakes with traction control
The new buses will primarily support athletic travel but will also commute for field trips and extracurricular activities requiring long-distance travel. By investing in these buses, we reduce our reliance on charter buses, improve scheduling flexibility, and better manage transportation costs.
