The goal of The Young Global Leaders program is to bring “together high school students from Arizona and California to investigate the invisible environmental and public health hazards that surround us every day" and ”learn “through hands-on laboratory experiences, collaborative research, creative expression, and mentorship from University of Arizona researchers. His impact was quoted in the below article as follows: "The Young Global Leaders Program is designed to build a community of learners and future leaders. This year's program reflected that mission in action as Jake Riel, a former Young Global Leaders participant, returned as a Student Team Lead. His journey from participant to mentor demonstrates the lasting impact of the program and the supportive community it continues to foster."

Congratulations to Empire Senior Elizabeth Robinson on being selected for Girls Nation! According to her program advisors, this makes Liz the first student from Vail USD selected to attend the program!

Liz was one of two students from Arizona selected to travel to Washington DC to participate in Girls Nation after attending Girls State, a similar program hosted at the state level. While at Girls Nation, she took part in creating a mock legislature, introduced a bill to reform federal prisons, and served as both a senator and party campaign manager.

The American Legion Auxilary states, "Girls Nation is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for students entering their senior year of high school. This weeklong event gives participants a firsthand experience with practical insight into how the federal government works. Participants leave ALA Girls Nation with leadership lessons for life and an understanding of the fundamentals of U.S. government, along with the rights, privileges, and responsibilities of citizens."
