Oro Valley Toastmasters – Meeting Highlights (July 20, 2026)

We had a full house last Monday with 29 attendees, creating an energetic and engaging atmosphere. The evening featured three prepared speeches and a lively round of Table Topics (our impromptu speaking session).

Prepared Speeches:
Lily – “A Taste of China”
Lily took us on a vivid journey through her recent travels in China. She shared highlights including the panda exhibit, the dramatic face‑changing performance, a train that passes through an apartment building, the glowing night skyline, Jiuzhaigou National Park with its color‑shifting forest and turquoise lakes, and the futuristic cityscape of Chongqing — a true “Cyberpunk City.”
Takeaway: Travel opens your eyes to unexpected beauty and unforgettable experiences.

Robert – “The Beauty That Is Traverse City”
Robert introduced us to the charm of Traverse City, Michigan — peaceful Lake Michigan beaches, iconic lighthouses, and the famous Cherry Republic, home to everything cherry: dried cherries, salsa, BBQ sauce, chocolate‑covered cherries, candies, and more.
Takeaway: If you’ve never visited Traverse City, it’s worth the trip.

Mahi – “NICE: Neighborhood Integrated Citrus Enterprise”
Mahi presented her business concept focused on collecting excess citrus fruit from Arizona neighborhoods and repurposing it to reduce waste.
Takeaway: Recycle and repurpose citrus that would otherwise go unused.

Oro Valley Toastmasters – Meeting Highlights (July 6, 2026)

Oro Valley Toastmasters kicked off the first July meeting with post‑holiday fireworks of our own.

Happy Friday! Whether you missed Monday’s meeting or simply want to relive the fun, here’s your recap.

What an evening. Despite the blazing 108° heat outside—and the U.S. soccer team battling Belgium in the World Cup—we still had 24 dedicated attendees: 19 members and 5 guests. The room was buzzing, and Jim set the tone by showing off his imaginary soccer‑ball dribbling skills. The energy was just as hot as the weather. 🔥✨

🎤 Prepared Speeches
We enjoyed four prepared speeches, and with every member eager to speak, all slots are filled through the end of the year—an incredible milestone for the club.

Nicholas opened with “A Free Vacation, My Joy of Reading,” sharing his passion for books and the worlds they open.
Takeaway: Pick up a book—you never know where it will take you.

Manika followed with her inspiring Ice Breaker, “Journey from Someday to Today,” reflecting on her move to America, learning English, and finding her voice through Toastmasters.
Takeaway: Don’t give up.

Pi delivered “Cart Surfing at Walmart,” a humorous yet humbling story about navigating Walmart in an electric cart after a back injury.
Takeaway: Stay focused, and you might just flow like water.

Hal closed with “The Night the Lights Went Out in Tucson,” recounting how he unexpectedly thwarted a potential armed robbery at a Circle K.
Takeaway: Sometimes you’re in the right place at the right time.

🎯 Table Topics
Our Table Topics Master, Robert, led a lively impromptu session with playful, creative questions.
Seven brave participants tackled prompts such as:

What’s the strangest skill you have?

What’s the funniest excuse you’ve ever given?

What silly thing would you do on YouTube?

What reality TV show would you create?

What was your favorite childhood snack?

And the classic: What was your most embarrassing moment?

📝 Evaluations
Lesley, Laura, Virginia, and Jay delivered warm, thoughtful evaluations for Nicholas, Manika, Pi, and Hal—capturing the true Toastmasters spirit of encouragement, growth, and celebrating strengths. 🌱👏

🍰 Treats & Thanks
A huge thank‑you to Linda Mei for bringing delicious biscotti and peach rings. They vanished almost instantly!
