Sonoran Glass School invites you to explore glassblowing, flameworking, and kiln fusing through classes, experiences, and demonstrations in our studios and around Tucson. Sonoran Glass School (SGS) is a 501(c)(3), non-profit educational organization dedicated to promoting the appreciation and awareness of glass as a visual arts medium. Our mission is to enrich our community by providing a supportive environment in which glass artists, students, and enthusiasts can learn, create, and share knowledge.

Registration is now open for Sculptural Dialect: Building a Visual Vocabulary, a flameworking workshop with Kimberly Thomas!

This workshop treats narrative as a matter of vocabulary — sculptural form built into a vernacular capable of carrying a story. Through demonstration, students will see how vocabulary decisions take shape in the artist's own work, then build their own sculptural dialect in turn: developing fundamental flameworking techniques into more complex constructions, deepening their material fluency in borosilicate glass, and using each new skill as another word in their vocabulary for telling a story through form. Intuition, experimentation, and innovation are encouraged throughout, with instruction emphasizing craftsmanship and the growth of each student's creative voice.

Registration is open for Corey Pemberton’s workshop Pattern Play: Bullseye Murrine. Students will create intricate patterns using Bullseye sheet glass. The bundles will then be turned into murrine tiles and blown into sculptural forms. This class is an exciting mix of warm and hot shops! If you lack experience in either don’t worry, this is a great chance to learn and we have gaffers to assist in the hot shop. Join us for a fun class that is great for beginners and experienced fusers alike! We will teach you how to use glass paints to draw and paint your ideas onto glass. We will also provide patterns for students who would like one. Pick from one 6x12 inch or two 6x6 inch bases. The class is held September 15th from 1-4 pm for $95. Tomorrow is the big day! We have been gearing up for fall all summer and we are excited to be back in the groove. There are many exciting things happening this fall and in 2027, and we want to share it with you! Come on by for free from 5-8pm and tour the studios, grab a bite to eat, and maybe take home some glass at a steal! The Break it or Buy it Auction is always exciting and many good pieces are up for grabs this year. Plus you can get a raffle ticket for a chance to win one of three classes we are giving away or the Trader Joe's goodie bag. The furnace is heating up and it’s time to blow glass again! If you have ever wanted to learn glassblowing then we have the perfect class for you. We have three options this year for our Furnace Glassblowing class that runs for three months, totalling 20 sessions. Beginners and novices both have a place and no experience is required for the intro level. Sign up through the website or call the school with questions. Payment plans available. 🌵
