Tucson Youth Music is profoundly impactful, not only for the young students, but for the parents, extended family, and the whole community. These children grow through music education, and often are transformed from shy, inexperienced kids into confident and highly capable young adults. TYM students take the skills they learn from our music classes with them for the rest of their lives.

Summer is a favorite season for many people, especially kids! 😉
The end of summer can come with a bit of sadness, but let’s also remember all the fun that comes with fall. Crunchy leaves, crisp evenings, cooler days, pumpkin-flavored treats, and a continued commitment to learning.

Sometimes good things end so that better things can come along. We’re sorry to say goodbye to the summer months, but as all Arizonans know, the heat will be here well into the fall! 🌞

If you are a TYM student, hopefully you’ve been practicing all summer, but if not… Dust off those music books and instruments! All your musical knowledge will come back easily once you get back in the groove!💛🎶

For the better part of a century, Tucson Youth Music has provided the underserved youth of the Tucson area with the unique opportunity to access real instruments and quality lessons, taught by accomplished musicians. A vast majority of children meet their early and closest friends at school. Extra curricular activities, like music class, are another great way for kids to make quality, lasting friendships. 🫂

Over the 70+ years that Tucson Youth Music has been teaching the community’s youth to read, write and play music, many hundreds of enduring friendships have been made. We can’t wait to see more kids meet their future best friends in music class! 💛🌵

While the cello is a less commonly played instrument compared to piano or guitar, it has a bold sound and big personality. One could even argue that the cello is the most personable instrument, as its sonic range is nearly identical to the combined average male and average female human voice. 🎤

Today, we’d like to show some love and appreciation to our music composition students and teachers. Music composition is one of Tucson Youth Music’s lesser known subjects. While other classes use instruments, music composition is fundamental in providing the written music for all those fabulous instruments to then go out and play. 🎼

Anytime someone looks at a sheet of music to start playing their instrument, it is important to remember that someone used their knowledge and creativity to put those notes together. Their ideas created the music we hear and enjoy. A ton of hard work goes into bringing beautiful music to your ears, and our music composition students know this all too well! 🎶✏️
