FIRE RECOVERY UPDATE

Things have been at a standstill till now. After six weeks, we finally got the permits to demolish the burned-out buildings, redo the roofs, and start the electrical repair. The long quiet broke on Tuesday when trucks, tar, roll-offs, and a dozen or more workers arrived in the parking lot, eager to begin their much needed work.

A fire may have damaged Govinda’s temple, but their spirits and hopes burn bright : Govinda’s owner Sandamini Devi remains positive for the future of the restaurant after a fire caused a significant amount of damage to the vegetarian standby.

A shed fire Tuesday at Govinda’s Natural Foods Buffet has led to the restaurant's closure for at least a month, the founder of Govinda’s said.

The restaurant has been around since 1992 and is open six days a week. Now, they'll be closed for possibly the next two months.

Sharon Cooksey's husband noticed a car was on fire Tuesday night, just feet away from where their restaurant and spiritual temple, Govinda's has stood in midtown since 1992.
