Help guide the climate literacy update!

"NOAA, Smithsonian and fed partners seeking suggestions to update key climate literacy guide

NOAA, as part of the U.S. Global Change Research Program (USGCRP), is requesting suggestions on structure, topics, and content to help update a key national climate literacy guide used by educators, policymakers, and scientists across the U.S. and internationally for more than a decade.

“The climate literacy guide is an essential reference for communities across the country,” said Frank Niepold, NOAA senior climate education program manager. “Its strength emanates from the diversity of communities that contribute perspectives to it. We need a significant public response to ensure we create the best, most impactful update to the guide. We urge your feedback and input.”"

NEW Atlantic Shark Art Contest from NOAA Fisheries! K through 8th grade entries can be submitted now through April 30th!

"To celebrate 30 years of successful U.S. Atlantic shark fisheries management, NOAA Fisheries is launching a campaign focused on providing fact-based shark information to the public. To kick-start this campaign, we are inviting kindergarten through eighth grade students to participate in our Atlantic Shark Art Contest to help raise awareness about Atlantic sharks. Students from all U.S. states and territories in recognized public, private, and home schools are eligible to participate.

Artwork should highlight federally-managed Atlantic shark species and address at least one of the three themes:
-The important role Atlantic sharks play in their ecosystem to support healthy oceans and fisheries.
-The diversity of Atlantic sharks and their habitats.
-The unique biological characteristics of Atlantic sharks.

The winning artwork will be featured in a 2024 Atlantic shark calendar.

"With support from The Ocean Foundation and National Geographic Society, a group of young writers between the ages of 18-25 are creating a "youth ocean action toolkit" focused on the seven ocean literacy principles and marine protected areas (MPAs). This toolkit – written by youth for youth – provides community examples of how youth can take action to conserve their ocean; demonstrates the benefit of MPAs for ocean conservation; includes links to resources and multimedia content; and features a strong social media component. The toolkit will be available this summer in English and Spanish. This webinar featuring some of the toolkit’s youth authors will provide an overview of the content and techniques to engage and empower young people around the world."
