We need historians because what we remember matters.

Public memory shapes how we understand who we are and what we value. Historians play a key role in researching, preserving, and interpreting those shared stories in museums, memorials, and public spaces.

How we remember the past influences how we move forward.

Having so much fun at National Council for the Social Studies Convention. I’ve spent my time meeting a lot of new and fun people (including Presidents of other councils) learning a lot of new things, and seeing some great sights. Can’t wait for tomorrow!

Happy Thanksgiving!
Today I’m especially grateful for the work we get to do as social studies educators — helping students make sense of the world, connect the past to the present, and discover their place in the story of our communities and our country.

I’m thankful for:
🦃 Curious students who ask big questions.
📚 Colleagues and mentors who inspire growth.
🏫 Schools and communities that value learning, civic engagement, and service.
🤝 Opportunities to teach history and civics in ways that matter far beyond the classroom.

Wishing everyone a safe, restful, and meaningful Thanksgiving. May your day be filled with good food, good company, and a moment to reflect on the things that truly matter.
