The Adventure School Extraordinary Leadership Education The Adventure School is located in beautiful Tryon, North Carolina.

We are an experience-based adventure school that was formed in 2000. We consist of both homeschool and public school children but are slowly expanding to offer additional programs for more ages. The Adventure School's goal is to offer programs that develop responsible, creative, and courageous leaders. We offer many programs for youths and young adults, including "Adventure Youth Group", "Summer Adventure Camps", and "Foreign Adventure Service Trips". Every year we are expanding and creating new programs to challenge and enhance our student's lives and their families. A day to be outdoors, have fun with friends, and learn a little something about your environment - and yes, get a little dirty. Have a Halloween event that morning or night? Don't forget we have half days!

At The Adventure School, we celebrate Fat Bear Week because it...

- Illustrates the transition from Summer to Fall.
- Provides an opportunity to learn about how animals prepare for winter.
- Highlights a healthy ecosystem.
- Gives kids a chance to learn about the differences and similarities between brown bears and black bears.
- Builds observational skills as students compare and contrast the bears, their movements, features, diets, and environments.
- Gives an opportunity to practice making choices based on evidence
- Is full of awesome, beautiful, bulked up bears!

While the brown bears of Katmai National Park in Alaska are very far from us, these bears are a great example of how some animals prepare for winter in a healthy ecosystem.

They've been learning primitive survival skills, reviewing their paddle strokes, teaching river features to the Explorers, creating their nature journals, and even sewing their own rucksacks. We love them too! But we will be offering fewer weekend Adventure Days this fall. Our goal is to focus our time and energy this fall on balancing and supporting our programs and growth as we plan for the future. There will be an Adventure Day (ages 5-12) in October and a Teen Day (Ages 13-16) in December. Look for more details about those soon. We *DO* plan to offer more Adventure Days in Winter and Spring of 2027! Y'all are awesome and thank you for understanding!

What is an Explorer? They step into the unknown with curiosity, courage, and a willingness to learn and adapt. In these first couple of weeks our new Explorers (6-8 year-olds) are learning all about it and having fun along the way! A special treat this fall is our now Navigators (8-11 year-olds) are able to share their knowledge and leadership as the Explorers settle in. This week the Navigators taught river features as they helped the Explorers navigate the full tube run!
