The Kiln is filled and so is my heart. Pick up will be Monday 9-10 am.Every glaze workshop affirms that Truro Clay Works is making a creative community slowly over time. I am not in a hurry. I will be here when and if you choose to step in.

Being creative is sitting with uncertainty until the next move reveals itself to be seen. The altar was an intimate and hopeful, weeklong workshop with truly a bright Coven of five gorgeous witches! We cooked up, theaters for devotion, each truly individualized for our magical needs. Feeling huge gratitude for the container of Truro Clay Works to foster in new makers and build a community of support for one another.

Tonight was a special one to one session with my one and only Harper. She learned how to trim pots and came prepared with decorative ideas already sketched out. We talked about Art injuries, the joys of being an only child, and the art of making decisions. What a joy to teach the spawn of my loves. Apples do not fall far from the tree.

”Although patience, expertise, fluency and caring are in short supply these days, Amy Kandall is remarkably adept in sharing all these attributes.” it wasn’t until the last 10 minutes of class that she revealed that she was 94. When I asked her what her secret was, she said “It’s all in the mind.”This is a picture of Cecily with some of her successful products. Cecily has had a long career as a chef and I was so happy to see her confidence from that career carryover to her Wheel practice. Getting to know your students is so important. The joy goes both ways.

This Monday, I’m teaching a new week long class and we still have a few spots for you. It’s called the ceramic altar. We will be designing and building personalized altars that suit your manifestation needs. Think of the altar as a tiny stage to place a focus. As you change your intentions change, so it is a forum for all of that to be held and be fluid. You can register in the link in my bio.

Trimming. It’s part two to throwing. Once your clay becomes leather hard, you flip your pot upside down and carve it while it’s spinning. The debris turns into curly tails flying everywhere making a different kind of mess. It is and satisfying. The process takes off the extra weight and helps refine the bottom of the pot. The lip of a pot and the foot of the pot have a relationship like book ends. Signing the bottom of a pot and putting the year on it marks time and the completion of a cycle. Then the pot is fired for the first time. In the firing process it changes color, becomes no longer dissolvable in water, and begins shrinking 12%. Glazing is part three, the icing on the cake, the candy on the apple. Oh how sweet it is.
