NEED Academy Pamet Learning Station

NEED Academy Pamet Learning Station The Seashore Program provides the opportunity for 5th grade students to live, explore, and study in a beautiful setting within the Cape Cod National Seashore.

Our living space is a former Coast Guard Station with some grand views of the Atlantic Ocean and the Pamet River valley. Our classroom consists of the beaches, dunes, woods, marshes, bogs, swamps, and ponds of the National Seashore. The N.E.E.D. (National Environmental Education Development) Academy is run by the Falmouth, Dennis-Yarmouth, and Monomoy schools, which send all their fifth grade clas

ses. The program has been in operation since 1973 as a Collaborative program, and hosts approximately 900 students each school year for their 2 ½ or 5 day-overnight environmental education experience.

Administered by University of Maine Cooperative Extension, the program gives fourth- through eighth-graders immersive, multi-day experiences at no cost to their districts, building STEM skills, leadership and a deep connection to Maine’s natural heritage.

How great is this?!?!

Update: At this time both the waitlist and class are at capacity. We will advise if openings become available!

Today our Division and Yarmouth Recreation held our first ever Kids Learn to Clam and Crab Class. We can’t thank everyone enough for coming and are excited to watch this program grow. We could not believe the amount of interest in this program and are set to hold a second class August 14th 2025. There is an open waiting list for this class and if you are interested we highly suggest you get on it. We had some last minute drop outs and were able to get in touch with some waitlisted applicants who were able to attend!

We had high hopes this class would spark curiosity and a lasting interest in our local fishery. Based on the number of kids and parents asking how to obtain shellfishing permits we feel this was accomplished. The future of Yarmouth is bright and full of young environmental stewards in the making, with a focus on protecting and sustaining our local fisheries.
