After reading If You Lived Here, third-graders explored how homes look and function in different places and times, learning that where people live often shapes how they live.
Inspired by what they discovered, students became young architects and designed their own homes. se.
This hands-on project encouraged imagination, problem-solving, and attention to detail as students thought about how to make a home both functional and uniquely their own.
At St. Catherine’s, learning comes alive through experiences that connect reading, creativity, and real-world thinking.

After reading The King of Shattered Glass, third-grade students reflected on themes of light, beauty, and seeing value in what is broken or overlooked.
Inspired by the story, they created stained glass–inspired crosses using paint, color, and light to express those ideas visually. Each piece was unique, showing creativity, care, and personal interpretation of the story’s message.
This meaningful art project combined literature, reflection, and artistic expression, helping students connect what they read to something they could create with their own hands.

After reading Mr. Ferris and His Wheel, third-grade students explored the story of George Ferris and his invention of the original Ferris Wheel for the 1893 World’s Fair. This inspiring example of creativity, engineering, and big thinking changed how people experienced amusement forever.
To bring that learning to life, students designed and built their own unique carnival rides. From sketching ideas to constructing creative models, they imagined how rides could move and spin, just like real engineers and inventors.
This hands-on project blended storytelling, history, design, and collaboration, giving students the chance to turn inspiration from a book into their own imaginative creations.
At St. Catherine’s, learning goes beyond the page, where curiosity leads, creativity follows, and students are encouraged to think like inventors every day.

After reading How to Catch a Leprechaun, our kindergartners brainstormed ideas together, then wrote out their plans using “first, next, and last.” From there, they collaborated to design and build imaginative leprechaun traps filled with gold coins, rainbow paths, tubes, and clever signs to lure their tricky visitor.
At St. Catherine’s, learning is hands-on. Students are encouraged to think creatively, solve problems together, and bring their ideas to life from the very beginning of their school journey.
It’s this kind of engaging, collaborative learning that helps our students grow in confidence, curiosity, and love of learning. Contact us to visit our amazing school and see our recipe for success first-hand! https://www.stcatherinesienatrumbull.org/scss-difference.html

The days are getting longer, the sun is shining a little brighter, and there’s a sense that spring is finally on its way.
After a long, cold winter, the sound of laughter has returned to our playground as students once again enjoy outdoor recess. It was a welcome sight to see students outside soaking in the fresh air, moving, playing, and celebrating the change of season together.
We are more than ready to welcome spring!

Our second grade students celebrated their First Reconciliation. They worked hard preparing for this important step in their faith journey, and we could not be more proud of them.
To mark the occasion, Mrs. Platt treated the students to purity sundaes to celebrate all that they have accomplished.

We were proud to host our very first Mock Trial at Saint Catherine of Siena School.
This year, we launched our after-school Mock Trial Club, and our students had the opportunity to present and defend a case in front of an audience of middle school students, as well as our fourth and fifth graders, who will have their own opportunity to participate later this spring. It was especially meaningful to also welcome the parents of our participants, whose presence made the experience even more special for our students.
What made this experience truly exceptional was that the entire program was led by parent volunteers who are practicing attorneys. Their expertise, dedication, and attention to detail created an authentic and enriching experience for our students. We are incredibly grateful for the time, care, and professionalism they brought to this work.
It was truly impressive to watch our students rise to the occasion. They demonstrated confidence, critical thinking, and a deep respect for the process. Most importantly, they conducted themselves with integrity and maturity, representing our school in such a positive and meaningful way.
We are so blessed to have such talented and generous families within our community, who share their gifts so selflessly for the benefit of our students.
We look forward to seeing this program continue to grow.

We are so proud to highlight two of our students who had the honor of leading our St. Patrick’s Day Parade as Saint Patrick and Saint Brigid!
What makes this recognition especially meaningful is the thoughtful process behind it. Students interested in portraying these beloved saints participated in a blind essay selection. Each student wrote about the life, virtues, and legacy of the Saint they hoped to represent. Our teachers then carefully reviewed each submission, selecting the students whose writing most deeply reflected the spirit, faith, and character of these holy men and women.
We are incredibly proud of both students for the reverence, preparation, and pride with which they stepped into these roles. They not only represented Saint Patrick and Saint Brigid beautifully, but also embodied our school’s commitment to learning, faith, and Catholic identity.

Today we honor the quiet strength of Saint Joseph. Protector of the Holy Family, and patron of workers, his humility, faithfulness, and trust in God's plan are a true example of steadfast love, servant leadership, and unwavering faith.
We pray that our students will follow his example by leading with courage, caring for those entrusted to them, and trusting in God's purpose. Most especially in the quiet, ordinary moments of life.
St. Joseph, Pray for Us.
