MusicWings is happy to announce that our Sounds of Music program has been extended another year!

This special and heartfelt performing opportunity for students is designed to bring the healing powers of music to our senior community members living at the Tahoe Forest Extended Care Facility. We are grateful for the opportunity to come back and spread the joy of music each month starting this September.

Come join Alice for an amazing Why Music Matters tomorrow evening!

Explore the intersections of Music, Memory, and Time. Join us for our next "Why Music Matters" free community lecture on Friday, August 7 at 6pm at Little Bird Music (11429 Donner Pass Rd).

This talk marks the first in a series on this topic. Guided by thinkers such as Aristotle, Saint Augustine, Marcel Proust, and Henri Bergson, we'll consider music as a powerful act of recollection: how it shapes and reanimates memory. We'll also explore the cognitive processes behind how we hear and remember music, and its longstanding role in teaching and transmitting knowledge across generations.

We are so excited to welcome a very special offering to Little Bird this fall: a six-week MUSIKGARTEN session with the incredible Rita Whitaker Haun!

MUSIKGARTEN is a beautiful early childhood music and movement program designed for children ages birth–5 with an adult partner. Through singing, listening, playing simple instruments, and movement, children are nurtured in their musical development while strengthening their relationships with themselves, others, and the world around them. My children participated in Rita's classes when they were babies, and I'll never forget the bond and connection we experienced - and are still experiencing - through music.

Rita chose MUSIKGARTEN because of its exceptional recordings and thoughtfully designed, age-appropriate curriculum that supports children’s brain development and creates meaningful musical experiences for the whole family.

It's been a great week celebrating 20 years of jazz camp with many Little Bird Students participating. And we couldn't be more proud to see how they progress over the years. Here is our very own, Cody Cotter, followed by Jordan Guldman who was one of the very first students at Little Bird and participated for many years at Moody's Jazz Camp and now is a professional musician. The years do fly by!

This camp is led by the incredible Jordan Guldman—a Truckee native, ACMS/Truckee High/Little Bird alum, Oberlin Conservatory graduate, and soon-to-be graduate of the Manhattan School of Music with a master's in jazz trumpet performance. Over the course of the week, students will explore the history of jazz from its West African roots through New Orleans, the swing era, bebop, and beyond—paired with hands-on playing, improvisation, and ensemble work. The goal is to help students not only understand jazz intellectually, but experience it through making music together. This camp beautifully complements Moody's Jazz Camp in June.

Wow, just wow. Way to bring it, Little Bird! We are still flying high up in the clouds in pure joy from this weekend's 10th year anniversary recital and celebration! We truly had a recital for all ages and instruments and we are all so proud of how far every single student has come this year. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

We have two big events coming up this weekend for both Little Bird and MusicWings! MusicWings

TONIGHT: Friday June 5th we have Why Music Matters Lecture Series with JJ Morgan reflecting on 20 years of the Moody's Jazz Camp at 6pm at 11429 Donner Pass Rd.

TOMORROW: Saturday, June 6th we have our 10th anniversary recital and celebration! Recital times are 12pm, 2pm, 4pm and 6pm followed by the and Dark Horse for some live music, celebration and fun at the Community Arts Center outdoor amphitheater. The bands kick off probably around 7pm.

Come on out and celebrate these two major milestones of local music!
