Attributes We Should Emulate

Remember playing follow the leader as a kid? Whatever the leader did or said, or wherever the leader walked, we would do likewise to the best of our ability. It was a fun game and sometimes we would have a line of a dozen kids following the leader. Whoever did the best job, in the leader’s eyes, got to be the next leader.

As adults we don’t play those fun games from our yesteryear youth, unless we’re teaching our kids or grand kids how to play. But we do, or at least we should, follow the leader – our one and only leader, Jesus Christ. How does He lead us? By teaching and setting examples for us on how to model His perfect behavior.

As a man, Jesus modeled a perfect, sinless character that we should emulate.

He showed us love with the ultimate expression of self-sacrifice – laying down His life for humanity.

He taught humility and meekness – by submitting His will to the Father and taking the nature of a servant.

He modeled compassion by showing deep empathy for the marginalized, the sick, and those in distress.

He forgave us and freely offered us His grace and acceptance without shame, and commanded us to do likewise.

He taught us righteousness and truth – how to reject sin and how to never compromise on God’s truth. We will never attain this one, but we can ask God for His help in our endeavors.

While salvation is not a game and nothing to be taken lightly, we can “follow our leader” and walk in His ways – adults and kids alike!

We pray: Heavenly Father, we pray for more faith and more strength to follow in Your footsteps. Help us to teach others and set the examples You taught us so the world will follow. Amen.

Omniscient and all knowing

Taro card readers, mediums, psychics, and people who conduct séances, all claim one common thing: To be omniscient and all knowing. They come and go and are a dime a dozen. They were born and then they die, just like every other creature under heaven. They have no more power than you or me; yet, they make $1,000’s of dollars from people just gullible enough to call on them…

There is one, however, who is omniscient and all-knowing – our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ! He is the only one to have the real power to see into our hearts and know our thoughts. Some people falsely believe He didn’t come into existence until He was born. Truth is, He is part of the Trinity – True God, along with the Holy Spirit. He has existed since the very beginning as the creator and sustainer of the universe. All three have existed sine forever!

This knowledge comes to us throughout the Bible and we first see it in Genesis 1:1-2. “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.” And also from Genesis 1:26 “Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.’”

We don’t need a deck of cards or a psychic to tell us our future. As children of God, Jesus has already told us our outcome! He died and rose for us, securing our future with Him for all of eternity! He did this out of His great love for us. (Homework: John 3:16-17)

We pray: Dear Lord, heavenly Father, thank you for giving us Your Word in the Bible and for securing for us a mansion in Your eternal Kingdom. Amen.
