Five years ago on July 25, 2020, the man the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. called “the boy from Troy” made one last visit home during a memorial service at Trojan Arena on the Troy University campus. Hundreds of friends, family and members of the public gathered to pay their final respects to Congressman John R. Lewis, who passed away on July 17, 2020 at the age of 80. During the service, the flag of the country he loved adorned his casket, a reminder of Lewis’ more than 30 years serving in the U.S. Congress representing Georgia’s 5th district.
