This is why I am such an advocate for our music programs. If we want our kids to succeed in academics and life in general, we need to stop fighting to keep our music programs alive, and instead start fighting to DOUBLE our music programs.

Tomorrow, March 9th, the Safety/Security/Discipline committee will be hearing responses from the Administration on the following questions:

There is concern that not all schools (including SAU Office) have implemented and regularly conduct different types of emergency drills such as fire drills, lock downs, off site evacuation etc. Is there a district wide protocol and documenting procedure in place so that administration can be assured that all students and staff are familiar with the emergency drill process including off-site evacuations?

There is concern that during recess or times when students and staff are outside the facility there is limited (minimal in some cases) access to be able to return to the building in an efficient manner. If there are many students outside and only one staff member has access to a door, safety is compromised if students and staff need to gain quick access to gain entry to the building. Is there an appropriate (safe and secure) way to enable more staff to have some limited access to doors during school hours?

Is there a method to communicate with staff that is outside the building? Two-way radios etc?

There is concern that not all buildings have a secured entrance protocol for visitors during the school day. How are visitors “buzzed in”? What is the protocol for visitors to go into the hallways to visit classrooms or office areas? How de we know when visitors have left the building? Is there a plan to study the feasibility of having a double door entry in each building – a sally port type system?

There is concern that during an emergency not all rooms have door locks that can be readily accessed from inside the room.

Is the current system of security cameras and outdoor lighting sufficient? The concern in these areas focused on lack of sufficient lighting outside of some buildings during evening events as well as not enough security cameras to adequately cover the appropriate areas of the building and facilities.

Is there an efficient way to make contact with the school office in event of an emergency? The expressed concern is that if the designated phone in the office is unmonitored for some reason (bathroom break, on another call etc) there is not an immediate way for another phone/office to be notified. Is there such as thing as an “in-house 911” system so that an emergency call

On February 17th, the Strategic Planning team met and continued its work on the Mission Statement. The team is pleased to share with you the Draft Mission Statement for the Monadnock Regional School District.

The Monadnock Regional School District is a combined community of learners, education professionals & support staff, volunteers, businesses & civic organizations, tax-payers, and families who represent the towns of Fitzwilliam, Gilsum, Richmond, Roxbury, Swanzey, and Troy.

We embrace our shared responsibility to guide students to become active citizens who are both empowered and inspired to contribute to the future of their community.

Therefore, we collaborate not just to teach, but also to engage and educate every student in our district in an environment that is challenging, caring, and safe, while fostering life-long learning.
