I use to be caught up in the whole thing of needing to keep pressing regardless of the circumstances. I’ve settled in to what this season means to me and it’s not about being busy or grinding. This season is about healing, restoration, and returning to the field better than before. It’s okay to need a season of rest and healing. We all have them and need them. When so much is happening around you that affects you in such a profound way, you have to know when lightening the load (and not packing it on) is really the only thing you can do to get through.

My old pastor use to say, “there’s a cost for the anointing”. My grandmother use to say, “the higher you go, the smaller your circle”. Both statements have been ringing in my ears lately.

We keep doing the things that are comfortable no matter how they’re keeping us stagnant. There are things that may present themselves as good. But, they don’t benefit you long term. We can’t see it because it’s familiar and we can go through the motions on autopilot. What thing(s) is on autopilot? What are you holding on to that doesn’t benefit you? Ask yourself before any more time has escaped you. You don’t want to look back and realize you’ve missed opportunities to pivot that would’ve changed the trajectory of your life.

Before Good Times ever aired, Esther Rolle made her position clear.
When Florida Evans was spun off from Maude, Esther told producers she would only move forward if Florida had a husband in the home. She did not want another Black family on television shown as broken, fatherless, or disposable.
That’s how James Evans was created.
And yes, John Amos was cast intentionally. Strong, present, loving, flawed but responsible. A Black father who worked, cared, and led his household.
Esther also pushed for the Evans family to live in a two-parent Black household that felt real, not exaggerated for laughs. She believed representation mattered because television was teaching America how to see Black families.
When Good Times later drifted away from that vision, Esther spoke up. And when it didn’t change, she walked away at the height of the show.
That wasn’t rebellion.
That was conviction.
Born in Florida. Trained at Yale.
Emmy winner. Tony nominee.
But her greatest role wasn’t Florida Evans.
It was standing guard over how Black families were portrayed.
Ain’t we lucky we got her?

Having a vision means you’ve got what I call a “Growth Plan”. It’s very important to keep the vision in front of you in order to stay focused and make progress. Be careful to eliminate:
(1) people who distract you from your vision. Whether good or bad everyone cannot go where you’re going
(2) habits that are contrary to your vision. Whether good or bad, everything won’t line up with the vision.
(3) “Vision-killing” mindset. If you need a reset or a Mind Detox, make sure you make time for it. If you don’t, you could find yourself sabotaging any progress.
Let’s grow people! Let’s FLOW!!!

This has probably been the worse season of my life. But I also see it as having the potential to be the best. In the worst situations, God shows up to show you what He’s been doing in the background and how He hasn’t taken His hands off of you. Some seasons are meant to strengthen, some to bring a deeper level of awareness, and others are to elevate. No matter what the occasion, we are to trust God and His process. It’s not about our agendas or what we desire. It’s more about the Kingdom assignment and what He desires.
So, as I lean in to hear from Him in this season in regard to my personal life, I also lean in to hear what He would have me to do with FLOW. I didn’t create FLOW without God. God created FLOW and birthed her from me…and I thank Him for the opportunity to regroup and shift to what is needed in this season. Definitely gotta keep FLOWing.
For those who have been with me for a while…thank you.
For those who just discovered FLOW…stick around.
More to come…
