Today was 9/25, and so the Concord staff decided to secretly have a little “9 to 5” fun in honor of Dolly Parton! This flier was sent to staff only earlier this week, encouraging the staff to come dressed in “Dolly inspired” attire today.

Students very quickly knew something was up. At 2 pm, we encouraged our classrooms to take a few minutes and drop everything to read. Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library has helped millions of homes receive books to read with their children.

We had real ballerinas at Concord last week!

Concord first graders enjoyed a visit from the Dayton Ballet Company. Their visit is part of a partnership with the Dayton Performing Arts Alliance and Troy City Schools, bringing unique experiences to each grade level of students.

Concord’s PTO visited the lunchroom last Friday to shower more students with prizes for Spiritwear Friday!

Students are encouraged to wear Concord or Troy clothes every Friday to show our school and community pride. Students are excited with their name is called to come up and select a prize.

Friday was an exciting day at Concord Elementary! It was the first session for our Concord Buddy Class initiative. Look at these smiles! 💕

How it Works:
Each fifth grade class is paired with a second grade class, fourth grade classes are paired with first grade, and third grade classes are paired with a kindergarten classroom. These are their pairings for the full year, and buddy classes meet monthly on designated Fridays. Students are given a specific “buddy” within those pairings and do various activities with that buddy during the planned hour long session.

There is a theme to each monthly meet up:
September: All About Me
October: Community Building
November: Gratitude/Thankfulness
December: Holiday Sing Along
January: Goal Setting
February: Self Love/Kindness
March: Growth Mindset
April/May: End of Year Lunch w/Buddy Class

Why do we love this program?
This program is part of Concord’s PBIS program (Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports). The positive relationships built through this model benefit both age ranges of our students. Our older students serve as a role model and build their ability to help and lead others. And our younger learners get to interact and idolize their older peers.

A special thank you to our Concord teachers for the extra effort and collaboration to plan these monthly buddy class gatherings. Concord is a special place!

This Tuesday morning was the first meeting for Concord’s Newspaper Club. This is a voluntary group of third, fourth, and fifth graders that meet regularly to create four quarterly newspapers for the school. A special thank you to Mrs. Grimm for providing this creation, collaboration, and publishing opportunity to our students.
