John W. Schmidt Center for Student Success The mission of the John W. Schmidt Center for Student Success (JWS Center) on the Troy Campus is: Academic success with integrity.

The JWS Center provides programs and services that enhance Troy University students' academic achievement, personal and social growth, campus and civic engagement, career development, and persistence to graduation. The JWS Center provides academic support services to enhance retention and degree completion by Troy University students; imparts success skills to Troy University students; and ensures

student acculturation as member of the TROY community. The JWS Center at TROY is a comprehensive unit that focuses on helping students achieve success. The JWS Center promotes an understanding of and appreciation for higher education; provides programs and services that improve students' opportunities for academic success and personal, social, and career enrichment; encourages civic and campus engagement; orientates students to the University and its policies, resources and culture; and fosters the development of positive relations between and among students, faculty, and staff.

Have you heard about our new Trojan Postcard Project?! 📬 Any family members who attended Freshmen Orientation Impact Orientation this summer were invited to fill out a postcard for their student with a Polaroid 📸 of themselves on it. They also filled out postcards with inspirational messages for any students who may not have had a family member available to attend. We invite students to take and keep those postcards as a reminder of home 🏠 and to keep working hard in school 🏫…
AND orientation students can submit a picture of them holding their postcard for ATLAS credit! 🌎

What a special day we had welcoming Dr. John W. Schmidt, our Center’s namesake, and other distinguished guests to a luncheon and Open House where we took time to fellowship over lunch and reflect on where we’ve come from, and where we’re going. As we begin another busy fall semester serving our students at Troy, our team was honored to hear from Dr. Schmidt on his vision that began the Center for Student Success and from Dr. Hawkins who supported that vision. We hope to do this again in the future and include many others who have poured into our students at TROY.

Alabama Association of Colleges and Employers - AACE 50th Anniversary Celebration 🎉 at this year’s annual conference in Auburn/Opelika. The JWS Director, Lauren Cole, was able to join the Troy University Career Services team comprised of Director Arminda McKee, Assistant Director Alicia Womack, and Program Advisor Jen Holbert for the networking event and celebration.

AACE board members for the upcoming year were voted 🗳️ on by the membership and Arminda was elected 2nd VP 🥈 and Jen was elected secretary 📝. Professional development is a priority of ours in the JWS so we are proud of these ladies for continuing to grow and serve! Congrats! 🎊

Check on us in the Center, y’all…we’re not ok 😞 as we also had a send off for Lauren Cochran today who is moving on to another role in our community. Always moving and juggling 🤹‍♀️ lots of tasks, Lauren led a team of multiple student 🧑‍🎓 👩‍🎓 workers, graduate assistants, full time staff and volunteers to accomplish so many wonderful things for our university and community. From tending a community garden 🪏 🪴 to feeding the elderly in our community (and lots more), Lauren led her team in building strong ties between the university and community partners, all while teaching our students that giving of their time and talents to others will bless them just as much, if not more, than it will bless those receiving the act of service.
Thank you for pouring into our students, Lauren, you will be missed ❤️ ⚔️

There is no one more worthy of celebrating than Ms. Bridgette Anderson who, after 34 years of service to the TRIO Upward Bound Program and Troy University, has decided to retire. She leaves a huge legacy behind of loving her “kids” as she affectionately calls them and spending countless hours from early in the morning until late at night on campus introducing high school students to the benefits of higher education.

TROY was incredibly blessed to have had you all these years and you will be so missed by our team in the Center and beyond.
