Ever wondered how electricity prices are set? Supply, demand, and infrastructure all contribute to the total cost, but that doesn’t mean your opinions don’t also hold weight. Joining a rate case allows individuals or parties to influence the rate setting process and share their views. Scan the QR code on the second slide to see what cases are ongoing.

The figure on slide one breaks down residential energy use into four major categories: heating, cooling, appliances, and other.

Understanding where your energy comes from and how it gets to you is an important part of energy literacy. Generation, transmission, and distribution come together to comprise our energy grid. NYS has made great strides to include renewable power sources like hydroelectric and solar to the grid, but ample opportunity remains to meet our decarbonization goals.

Rising utility rates are a shared concern among consumers statewide. New Yorkers face costs roughly 13% higher than national averages, leaving many with financial hardships. Understanding what makes up your bill and how to read them, is crucial to becoming an energy literate person. These individuals are equipped with the proper tools to make informed decisions, tackle challenges, and build resilient communities. This past summer, we took Radix’s Eco-Justice Associates to the Social Enterprise and Training (SEAT) Center and Glenmont Job Corp as a part of our workforce team’s new Clean Energy Awareness pilot!

This pilot aims to bring awareness and exposure opportunities for regional students/job seekers to learn about local clean energy career pathways and resources to learn about clean energy fields! 🧑‍🏭🧑‍🔧👷‍♀️

Radix Eco-Justice Associates had the opportunity to talk to instructors and current students enrolled in their programs. The training centers offer their own hands-on trade programs for young adults, some in various clean energy fields— some relating to HVAC, Solar, Construction and more!

Thank you Social Enterprise and Training (SEAT) Center & Glenmont Job Corps Center for having us!

Last week, our team attended the third annual Regional Clean Energy Hubs Conference. Our workforce development crew visited Soulful Synergy, an organization focused on creating pathways to careers in clean energy and sustainability for historically excluded communities. Attendees got an inside look at the training facility and what it’s like to be a student in one of their programs.
