The Dream Detroit Skating Academy, founded by Angela Blocker-Loyd and Candice Tamakloe, is the first and only Black-owned figure skating academy in Detroit and Michigan. Aiming to provide affordable lessons, they inspire Detroit youth to reach national and international levels.

Gov. Whitmer Delivers Free or Low-Cost Childcare to 105,000 More Kids and Working Families.
Today, Governor Gretchen Whitmer celebrates the expansion of free or low-cost childcare to 105,000 more kids accomplished by expanded income eligibility criteria to include more working families. Families of four earning up to $49,000 will be eligible for free or low-cost childcare under new criteria, boosting Michigan’s economic momentum by helping parents go back to work knowing that their kids are cared for.

Eligible families must apply to receive childcare support through the Child Development & Care Program, commonly called the childcare subsidy. Families must be income eligible, have a child under age 12, and have an eligible need, such as working or going to school, to qualify.

Income eligibility:

Family of 2: $2,686 monthly, $32,232 annually
Family of 3: $3,386 monthly, $40,632 annually
Family of 4: $4,085 monthly, $49,020 annually
