On Tuesday, May 26, 2026, HVCC hosted an Apprenticeship Industry Roundtable on campus to promote registered apprenticeship programs (RAP) to companies around the capital district. Around 80 people in attendance from over 25 different companies and organizations learned about the benefits of beginning a RAP. Attendees were provided materials to help begin those conversations at their companies.
While the event was hosted by HVCC's Workforce Development and Community Education team, Christian Leahy and Robyn Peterson, many other presenters and sponsors helped make the day possible. Many thanks to New York State Department of Labor (Melissa Johnston and Melissa Baretsky), SUNY - The State University of New York (Angelina Sanfilippo and Jeff Lowther), Center for Economic Growth (Matt Grattan and Yasmeen Johnson), and Capital Region Workforce Development Board (Brian Williams and Tim Drawbridge).
The event was a success as many companies are considering RAPs as a viable option to upskill their current workforce as well as develop strategies to recruit more employees for a well designed training model.
