Friday’s Variety Show was something truly special at Oakland School ✨
From goat jumping to cheering, singing, skating, skits, magic, dancing, student led AV, laughter, tears and a lot of “wow!”- our students filled the morning with creativity, courage, and joy. What made it even more meaningful was the incredible amount of time, practice, collaboration, and heart that went into every moment.
A very big thank you to Jody, who mentored and inspired our students throughout this process. Your guidance helped bring their ideas to life in unforgettable ways, including writing an original song that became a highlight of the show.
One of the most moving moments was the performance of “Run Free,” written by Jody, a powerful song about compassion, responsibility, and honoring our four-legged horse friends when it’s time to let them go.
🐴
“Run Free”
No bit to bind
No iron shoe
Just a glistening coat from the morning dew
His eyes are soft
His jaw is loose
His ears relaxed
He’s free to choose
He is the river, he is the rain
He is the light that knows no shame
Unbroken, unbridled
Run free
Chorus
I cared for you
You cared for me
I learned responsibility
And a deep respect for loyalty
Relieved me from anxiety
Now you deserve to run free
A song in the wind
A storm in the sage
A spirit too grand for a rusted cage
Gallop through the meadow
Where the wildflowers grow
Drink from the stream
Where the mountain waters flow
No rope, no bridle, no heavy hand
Just a wild heart running over untamed land
Unbroken, unbridled
Run free
The flatwork’s done
He knows no tack
No heavy leather upon his back
Gone are the days of a guiding hand
Liberated from all commands
No whoa
No haw
No gee
Today he was set free
Unsaddled, unhaltered
Run free
We are so proud of our students for sharing their voices, supporting one another, and creating something joyful, meaningful, and uniquely theirs. 💛
