THERE IS MORE THAN ONE WAY TO SEE THE WORLD.
Today, on World Dyslexia Day, Oakland celebrates the incredibly creative, talented, and original thinkers who experience the world and learn differently.

Dyslexia can make reading, writing, spelling, and other parts of school genuinely difficult. We don’t need to call those challenges a “superpower” to recognize the many strengths and talents that dyslexic people bring to the world.

Dyslexic thinkers may see patterns differently. Make unexpected connections. Think creatively. Approach problems from a different angle.

At Oakland School, we believe in recognizing the whole learner: the challenges, the strengths, the curiosity, the creativity, and the individual ways each student makes sense of the world.

Because dyslexia doesn’t define what a person can do.

It simply means they may learn differently. And that’s worth understanding, respecting, and celebrating. 💚

What if the problem isn’t that your child doesn’t know it…
but getting it onto paper is the hard part?

Today is World Dysgraphia Day. 💛

Dysgraphia can make handwriting, spelling, organizing thoughts, and putting ideas on paper feel exhausting.

And sometimes, a student who is bright, curious, and full of ideas can begin to believe they’re “bad at school” simply because their written work doesn’t reflect what they know.

They’re not less capable.
They may just need a different way in.

At Oakland School, we help students understand how they learn best, build the skills they need, and experience the confidence that comes from finally seeing their abilities reflected in their work.

Because how a child learns should never define what they are capable of.

Sometimes, a mid-year change is simply a chance to try something different.

You may have started the school year hopeful that a new teacher, new supports, or a fresh start would help your child feel more confident and connected to learning.

And maybe some things are working. But you may also be noticing that your child’s strengths and potential aren’t quite showing up in the classroom.

That can be a good time to pause and ask:
Could a different approach help?
