S4SD is a Michigan high school-based safe-driving initiative led by teens for teens. It seeks to address the leading cause of death for teens, traffic crashes.

S4SD provides funding and resources to help teens talk to other teens about safe driving. Topics can include distracted driving, seat belts, drunk driving, and speed. Each participating school receives $1,000 for students to create teen-led traffic safety campaigns aimed at educating their fellow classmates. A number of studies have shown that passengers substantially increase the risk of crashes for young, novice drivers.
This increased risk may result from distractions that young
passengers create for drivers. Alternatively, the presence
of passengers may increase the likelihood of teenage drivers engaging in explicitly risky behaviors, for example,
by actively encouraging the drivers to take risks.

Our Story

S4SD provides funding and resources to help teens talk to other teens about safe driving. Topics can include distracted driving, seat belts, winter driving, impaired driving, and speeding.

Each participating school receives $1,000 for students to create teen-led traffic safety campaigns aimed at educating their fellow classmates. Following a series of events or activities, all participating schools will be eligible to send students to a free hands-on driving clinic with professional driving instructors.

This program is a public-private partnership between Ford Driving Skills for Life and the Michigan Office of Highway Safety Planning. It seeks to address the leading cause of death for teens, traffic crashes.
