I've just learned of a new children's chorus starting in Ashfield, MA for 8-11 year-olds. Rachel Gibson is directing, she has a strong background in Kodály music education, which is what I based my Kids' Jam classes on. With all the unyielding cold we've had lately, I am definitely thinking ahead to warmer weather.

The Birch Tree is a Russian folk song that I found in an early 1900's collection of international folk songs at the Forbes Library in Northampton, MA. The English translation is by Jacob Robbins - I narrowed down the original 25 or so verses to the ones I thought most family-friendly for my Kids' Jam classes, now online as Come Jam With Me.

I just posted the song on my Bandcamp page, a preview of more spring songs to come when the weather is a bit more attuned to them, and a reminder that gentler days will eventually be here. Enjoy!

Winter Highlights contains 19 songs from our Kids' Jam/Come Jam With Me winter season classes - which you can now share with your friends!

On Bandcamp, you can find not only the songs from our classes, but some of the music we danced to and played instruments to are available there too. My two favorite bands are Rani Arbo & daisy mayhem, and Nightingale, and I used a number of their recordings in our classes. You can find both of them on Bandcamp. I'll put links to their pages below, or you can search for them at Bandcamp dot com. Note that Nightingale's albums are found on Becky Tracy and Keith Murphy's page.

In 2007 I began researching and writing songs to teach a family music class for ages 5-7, that I called Kids' Jam. I taught in-person classes for many years, and took them online during the pandemic. Because I chose songs that I personally loved, I wasn't surprised to find that the grownups enjoyed the songs and singing games as much as the kids, and both younger and older siblings participated happily too.

I’ve sung a number of these songs in my concerts over the years, and I’ve been asked many times if they’re recorded. Now I can finally say yes, and here they are!

Come Jam With Me - Fall is a collection of my favorite fall Kids' Jam songs. Anand Nayak and I recorded everything live in the studio, just the two of us, and I love the results. I invite you to give a listen, as you just might too! (Bandcamp link in comments)
