Join us in welcoming our new Director of Athletics, Physical Education & Health: Brendan Miller! Because he started in July, many in the 'Burgh community haven't met Mr. Miller just yet, so we checked in with a Q&A before school starts so you could learn a bit more about him. See what Mr. Miller had to say below 👇!
❓What are some details about your background❓
I earned my bachelor’s degree in Physical Education and later completed my master’s degree in Athletic Administration from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. Over the past several years, I’ve worked as a PE teacher while also serving as a high school football coach in Cincinnati, Oklahoma, Brooklyn, and most recently as the Head Football Coach at Bridgeport Central High School in Connecticut.
Throughout my career, I’ve been passionate about creating positive experiences for student-athletes both on and off the field. Coaching has reinforced the importance of leadership, accountability, teamwork, and building relationships, while teaching has given me the opportunity to support students in developing lifelong healthy habits. I’m excited to bring those experiences together in my role at Lansingburgh to support our students, coaches, and community.
❓What drew you to this position and Lansingburgh❓
Lansingburgh immediately stood out to me because of its strong sense of community and pride in its athletic programs. Throughout the interview process, it was clear that this school district values building relationships and creating opportunities for its students to succeed.
As someone who grew up in the Capital Region, returning home was an important part of my decision, and this opportunity allows my wife and me to be closer to our family. I’m excited to become part of Lansingburgh and help continue building a culture that everyone in it can be proud of.
❓What have you been working on since starting, and what are some goals for the rest of the summer❓
Listening and learning, getting to know our coaches, student-athletes, families, and staff so I can better understand what we’re doing well and where we can grow. With the fall sports season right around the corner, I’m of course also focusing on ensuring it begins smoothly in the coming weeks.
❓Right off the bat, what do you want the community to know about your work style❓
I believe in being approachable, transparent, and visible. I'll be present at games, practices, and school events because strong relationships are at the heart of a successful athletics program.
I’m someone who values teamwork and open communication, and I believe the best ideas often come from collaboration. My goal is to create an environment where everyone feels comfortable sharing their ideas with me, asking me questions, and working together to provide the best possible experience for our students.
❓Finally, what's life like outside work❓
My wife and I recently relocated here to the Capital Region, and we're excited to be closer to our family. We’ll also be welcoming our first child later this year, which is an exciting new chapter we're looking forward to.
I’ve always loved sports, attending/watching games (Yankees, Giants, Rangers, and Knicks!), enjoying music in my free time and spending time outdoors.
Most of all, I value spending time with family and friends and look forward to becoming an active member of the Lansingburgh community.

A reminder that Lansingburgh's voter-approved 2026–27 Budget includes funding for the district to provide all our students with the majority of their necessary school supplies for the upcoming school year.
This means supply lists won't be posted online or sent home before the 2026–27 school year starts. If students need any minor additional supplies not provided by the district, teachers will notify families shortly after the start of the year.
