Mt. Zion Lodge No. 311 will be hosting a Family and Friends Picnic at Grafton Lakes State Park, South Tent Pavilion, on Saturday, August 15th from 10 AM – 5 PM.

This event is open to all Brothers, their families, friends, and anyone interested in Freemasonry. It’s a wonderful opportunity to relax, share fellowship, and enjoy the beauty of Grafton Lakes.

Burgers, hot dogs, chips, water, and soda will be provided. We ask that Brothers please bring a side dish, dessert, beverages (BYOB), or extra charcoal to help round out the picnic. To avoid having too much of the same items, please let us know what you plan to bring when you RSVP. (Please do not feel obligated to bring anything. Your presence is what matters most.)

As summer is slowly fading, and we are soon called back to labor from refreshment, this is a great opportunity to share time and space with our Brothers and their families before we head back to the quarries!

Today was our annual joint summer picnic with our Sister Lodge, Apollo King Solomon No. 13. A big thank you to R∴W∴ Frank Burek for doing the heavy lifting and getting this event organized. Brother Burek and his family always make sure these gatherings are full of fellowship, amazing food, and most importantly family. It was great to see so many Brothers and their families come together today at Lakeside Farms.

As our Grand Master stated in his address during St. John’s Day weekend, we will be holding several 1 Day Classes, starting August 22, 2026 right here at the Troy Masonic Community Center. This is open to all Candidates already Balloted on as well as all EAs & FCs. As there is limited seating, first preference will be given to Candidates of the Capitol Area.

This is shaping up to be a great day for Freemasonry and a memorable event for all involved. Our Grand Master, and the Grand Line, will be present. This is the first event of its kind in approximately 20 years. Come be part of something special!

Today, we honor Juneteenth. Today is a powerful reminder of the enduring fight for freedom and justice.

As Freemasons, we stand on the principles of liberty, equality, and brotherly love. We commemorate this day not only as a celebration of emancipation, but as a continued call to reflect, educate, and build a more just society for all. There is still work to be done. The ashlar is not perfected.

Let us unite in remembrance, uplift one another in truth, and work tirelessly toward the light of true equality.

Over the weekend, several Brothers from Mt. Zion Lodge joined the Old Seventeenth Masonic District for the annual planting of flags at Memory Gardens in commemoration of Memorial Day. Brothers and families from across the District came together, making it a meaningful and solemn morning of remembrance.

Thank you to the LCDR John E. Hart Masonic Veterans Post No. 70 for presiding over the ceremony, and to V∴W∴ Jim Cozzy for organizing this important event.

Following the ceremony, the Schenectady Masonic Temple hosted the Installation of Officers for the LCDR John E. Hart Masonic War Veterans Post No. 70. Congratulations to Mt. Zion’s own R∴W∴ Neil Bonesteel and Bro. Joe Stefanovich on being elected to Officer and Trustee positions. Your dedication and service make us proud.

May we always honor the memory of those who gave their lives in service to our nation, and may our actions continue to reflect the values they defended.

On this day in 1843, a National Masonic Congress opened in Baltimore, Maryland. Now referred to as the Baltimore Convention, it ran from the 8th to the 17th of May and aimed to gain concurrence on a uniform "mode of work" for Grand Lodges in the United States.

One of the most enduring outcomes of the Convention was the adoption of certificates of membership, or dues cards, which are still used throughout the United States today.
