On the final day of Summer Bridge with incoming freshmen last week, students collaborated to design a Rube Goldberg machine. Small groups were tasked with creating a simple machine; all of the simple machines were put together to create one larger system, with the end goal of popping a water balloon.

This project had students using a variety of technical and soft skills, including engineering design, physics, systems thinking, troubleshooting, teamwork, communication, adaptability, time management and more. While their first attempt did not pop the water balloon, it was exciting to watch how well the students worked together!

Sending a big thank you to Ross Valve, one of our business partners! Yesterday for Freshman Summer Bridge, students toured their facility, learning about engineering and manufacturing pathways and what those careers could look like. Thank you for taking the time to meet with our students!

The last two days, our incoming freshman went on the road for two field trips during Summer Bridge Week, including a trip to Albany Med Health System. These industry tours give students an inside look at different career paths, and an idea of what to expect in the coming years at STEM High School.

Pictured here at Albany Med, students visited the Patient Safety and Clinical Competency Center where they met with staff and explored hands-on with simulators.

Thanks to both of our partners for working with our students this week!

This week, we're welcoming the newest cohort to STEM High School, our Class of 2030! Incoming freshmen are spending the week at school for Summer Bridge, a chance to familiarize themselves with the Hudson Valley Community College campus and prepare for a new school experience with new classmates.

Today, students went on a campus scavenger hunt, were issued their Chromebooks, and participated in a panel where they got to ask current students questions. Special thank you to Daniel Marble (Junior/Lansingburgh Central School District), Richard Anthony Salvatory III (Sophomore/East Greenbush Central School District), and Giuseppe Carbonaro (Sophomore/East Greenbush CSD) for being part of today's activities and welcoming our newest students.
