This spring, Troy University nursing students completed a pediatric rotation at Children’s Hospital of Alabama, and the White Coat Society helped get them there.
The White Coat Society is a donor-supported fund in the School of Nursing. A gift of $100 or more makes someone a member. Those gifts still cover the clinical basics: scrubs, shoes, stethoscopes, badge holders, and pen lights. This spring, they also covered most of the travel so students could say yes to a rotation they otherwise would have had to pass up.
Dr. Jenna Hussey, associate professor in the School of Nursing, led the rotation. Students came home with more questions, more confidence, and a clearer idea of where they want to work after graduation.
“When a student can get to a children’s hospital, they come back a better nurse, and that helps kids in Alabama,” said Lauren Chandler, director of development for the College of Health Sciences.
