Our first company visit of the year is here! Yesterday, we asked if you knew who was coming and from how far. The answer is... PLS Group, Inc. from Troy. Geospatial alums Justin Hall and Sawyer McKenzie travelled a grand total of 9 miles to visit with our students today. They brought lots of swag and Jersey Mike's subs. Our map of company visits will fill up in the weeks ahead, so stay tuned!

Tomorrow is the big day! Our first company visit of the year. And who will it be? Here is a clue - they won't be traveling very far to come to campus. We will post the answer tomorrow afternoon.

Our student chapter of the Alabama Society of Professional Land Surveyors (APSLS) are already working hard to plan a great year for our department - tailgates, social outings, hats, and who knows what else. Stay tuned to see!

Today is FDOL- First Day of Labs! The Hydrology class stayed in to enjoy the AC and learn how to do calculations. Accuracy in surveying is of the utmost importance! If you saw the Basics of Surveying class they were not learning to march like in Basic training, but rather how to pace off measurements. They also did their first survey,

As is our tradition, we enjoyed a meal Tuesday with recipes from around the world to prepare for the arrival of our students and the start of our 10th academic year as the Geospatial Informatics Department. We even had the honor of having Dr. Xu's parents with us. We needed all the energy we could get because yesterday was a busy one- too busy to remember to take photos 😮

Students taking Geomatics and GIS classes for the first time this semester will need to find their way to the third floor of Wallace Hall (AKA the library) and/or the Math and Science Complex (MSCX) across the Quad from the Adams Administration building. Our department is located in Wallace Hall, but our computer lab is in MSCX. There’s also an interactive campus map on the Troy website. Just go to the Visit tab or see the link in our profile.

We have the best interns and the best internship sponsors. On this National Intern Day, we want to thank all the companies and agencies that hosted our 28 internship students this summer. We appreciate each one of you!
