Good Morning today is These Old Firehouse’s Sunday . . . Sharing images with you of old firehouses that were called home to many firemen who were part of the neighborhood where they fit in, hardly noticed. They were assets worth their weight in gold as long as they remained in service to protect their neighborhoods.

A second home to firemen besides their family home. Many firemen poured their blood, sweat and tears into these firehouses with making repairs and keeping up the maintenance to these aging buildings. The red doors became a place for kids and adults to run to for help in case of an emergency. The kitchens were and still are the heart of the firehouse. Firemen gathered there from the beginning of their tour until their good byes to the arriving brothers . Stories and laughter and the aroma of great meals made these rooms special plus coffee available 24 hours a day upon returning from those fires they responded to.

Some of these firehouses are still open today still serving their neighborhoods, some are closed or abandoned and lastly some are running a new life . . .

These are not fire stations . . .

On this date August 23rd take time to remember and show respect by honoring these 25 Brave fallen firefighting brothers who responded to and answered their last alarm whereby in the performance of their fire department duties they gave their lives dying in the line of duty making the ultimate sacrifice.

The first recorded death of a fireman in the line of duty on this date August 23rd took place in 1891
Assistant Foreman James H. Shute, 42 - Engine 27
FDNY. Manhattan, New York While advancing a hose line, Assistant Foreman Shute was hit with smoke and heat. His men brought him outside where he took a last gasp of air and died before the ambulance could reach him.

There are many stories to read from these fallen firefighters who shared their last experiences . As you read about their last alarm look at their photos and speak their names so they are NEVER FORGOTTEN .
