We held our local Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge Competition today.

We had three grade levels competing and we would like to share the results! This has been one the best years with top winners all being within 3-5 points of each other. It was a tough competition and all the kids did a great job!

⭐️SENIOR SPOTLIGHT⭐️

During the month of February, we celebrate our seniors’ accomplishments in Career and Technical Education classes. 10 of the 11 seniors were completors in 18 pathways.

Each of these seniors have successfully completed the required introductory, technical and application level courses in their respected pathways. They will all wear cords representing their designated pathways for graduation.

February is CTE Month!

Our school district has 10 pathways with many opportunities for students. Students have the ability to take classes from 8th grade to 12th grade to earn CTE credits toward an area of their interest.

February is CTE month and also our only CTSO (Career & Technical Student Organization) national week!

Support the Greeley County FFA with the dress up days and events throughout the week.

It’s FFA Week! We would love to see you show your FFA pride this week by participating in our dress up days!

The high school Food Science class got an awesome experience this week as they work through their Meat Science Unit.

Steve Poet, retired Ag teacher and butcher, returned to the classroom to help the class breakdown a pig into primals and retail cuts.

Miss Hennick and her Animal Science class was also able to come in to look at the carcass as muscles to go with their unit.

The students made a cut list to package themselves as they learned the different cuts. The large cuts will be used later for their BBQ smoking unit. Students got to cut their own pork chops to get some experience.

After making our big cuts to package, students got involved with cutting the bigger pieces down to make their own sausage. They seasoned, ground, and packaged their sausages of choice: breakfast, cheddar jalapeno brat and pepperjack jalapeno brat. We then had to cook some to do a taste test!

Thank you to the Hopkins family for having local pork for us to purchase! Thank you to Heritage meats for slaughtering and cooling the carcass for us. Thanks Mr. Poet for also coming in to help with this experience!

February is CTE month! Throughout the month, we will be highlighting our programs, happenings, and seniors that are considered completors in our school!

GCHS high school students have been getting some career and technical education insight in the past couple months.

In October, a group of students went to the Western Kansas Career Showcase in Scott City to talk to technical jobs and technical schools.

Two weeks ago, some juniors went to the Fort Hays Northwest Tech Expo (formally NWKTC) to look at different programs and see students actively working in classes. We even got to see former students doing great things! Kashen and Ian serve as ambassadors for the college and Brodey was in his welding class working.

Yesterday, a group of junior boys attended the American Implement Full Throttle Openhouse to learn about the possibilities of an internship while in college. The highlight was they got to drive a new tractor and S7 combine.

⭐️ Youth Entrepreneurship Challenge ⭐️

Today we hosted our annual YEC event. Students in 8th, 9th and 11th grade compete in their respective categories. We had 26 projects all together. The winning project of the junior division will go on to compete at the state competition in April.
