Summer camps are back at the National Museum of the Marine Corps! The Museum's Education Team will host five summer camp programs in 2022:

⦿ Grades 4-6: Marine Corps Tactics Camp
June 21-23: 0900-1300 daily
June 28-30: 0900-1300 daily

Join the National Museum of the Marine Corps’ Education Team on a three-day adventure through the history of Marine Corps tactics!

⦿ Grades 7-9: Marine Corps Tactics and Leadership Camp
July 12-14: 0900-1300 daily

Join our Education Team for a three-day adventure through the history of Marine Corps tactics with an emphasis on Marine Corps leadership traits and principles.

⦿ Grades 4-6: Land, Sea, and Air Camp
July 19-21: 0900-1300 daily
July 26-28: 0900-1300 daily

In this STEM-focused three-day camp, participants will learn about the three environments that Marines are active in—the land, the sea, and the air.

Attention Students!
The National Museum of the Marine Corps (NMMC) Fourth Annual Marine Corps Student Art Competition will open on March 1, 2022, to all U.S. students in grades K-12.

The theme for the 2022 art competition is “Honor, Courage, Commitment.” Student artists are asked to create 2D art which visually shows what “Honor, Courage, Commitment” means to them. Suggestions include, but are not limited to: Marines and their families, Marines in U.S. history, patriotism, brotherhood, and combat support.

Eligibility
Student artwork will be judged in six grade-based categories: K-3, 4-6, 7-9, 10-12, and Special Needs grades K-6 and 7-12. The competition is open to private, public, DoDEA, and homeschool students in grades K-12.

Deadline
Artwork entries must be submitted via digital copy and are limited to one entry per student. Email entries start on March 1 but no later than March 15, 2022. Only the first fifty submissions in each category will be accepted for consideration.

Thanks to the generosity of the Marine Corps Heritage Foundation, winners receive a certificate and cash prize.

The month of May is designated as Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month in the United States. This month-long observance recognizes the achievements and contributions of Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Filipino, Southeast Asian, Indian, and Polynesian Americans in the United States, noting the hardships and challenges they endured along the way.

Please join us in thanking our super Volunteer Corps!

The National Museum of the Marine Corps (NMMC) genuinely appreciates our volunteers, hospitality ambassadors, and docents. They provide much-needed support for our outreach and educational programming, special events, and professional military education programs.

Since the Museum opened nearly 15 years ago, these men and women have given more than 300,000 hours of their time by sharing history, helping inventory collections, assisting with restorations and exhibits, contributing to educational programs, and taking the Museum beyond our walls. They can be welcoming, engaging, funny, and always knowledgeable. They are truly a part of our wonderful Museum family.

We are so very thankful for everything they bring to the Museum experience. The NMMC could not do what we do without our volunteers!

From April 7, 1991 to July 15, 1991, approximately 3,600 Marines were stationed in and operated from bases in Silopi, Turkey and throughout Northern Iraq. In particular, the 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit had the mission of defending fleeing Kurdish civilians in the region while also meeting certain operational goals and priorities such as providing relief and aid to refugees from a number of camps spread throughout Turkey and Northern Iraq. These Marines grouped together in what is called a MAGTF (Marine Air-Ground Task Force) delivered much-needed supplies to these displaced populations on land with trucks and a variety of helicopters.

We created a fun pen and paper game you can play with your friends and family members that directly relates back to the work done by Marines in Iraq and Turkey during Operation Provide Comfort. The game is available in our Gulf War educational resources page on the National Museum of the Marine Corps website.
