“There is too much to be said about my experience throughout college. I had moments of feeling nervous, wanting to give up, feeling inspired, deeply searching for answers, learning more about myself, feeling creative, not feeling good enough, making new friends, feeling like I can overcome any obstacle and more. Overall, I didn’t come out of college with all the answers, but I did come out with better questions, stronger instincts, and a clearer sense of what matters to me.” - Jensen Ballard, B.A. ‘25

“This will be the first time I have ever graduated with a diploma from anything. When I was nine, my father retired, and we moved to Greece. Over the next seven years, I only attended school two years for 4th and 7th grades. When we returned to the U.S., I was a 16-year-old high school freshman. I found school boring, and the bullying over the assumption I had been held back several years got to be too much, so after 10th grade, I dropped out and joined the Air Force. I got my GED and started college, but then came marriage, kids, two jobs, overseas deployments, and a host of other reasons. I tried going back to school after I got out, but then I got a great opportunity to double my income as a traveling consultant. I did that for over a decade and then got a non-traveling position with another company. By this time, it didn't seem like having a degree really mattered, until I found myself looking for a better paying job and hitting the education wall. My current role doesn't require a degree, but it is contract, and to be hired full time I really needed that diploma to be competitive, so finally, 40 years after I started my college journey, I completed my Bachelor of Science [degree] in 15 months, which was only possible because of TESU.” - Jonathan Chalmers, B.S. ‘25

"I had a lot of obstacles that tried to stop me from attaining my degree throughout the years. The very last week of school, I [lost] my beautiful mother. I still had two final papers to complete before the deadline. During the six-hour ride of traveling back home and putting her to rest, I wrote both of my papers – in APA format – and submitted them. Now, I am here graduating! I say that to say NEVER GIVE UP! No matter what you’re going through, show up and keep going! Thank you Thomas Edison!" - Jewelie Stewart, AAS ’25, and BSN prep program student
