Yesterday evening, Timbuk2 Academy Timbuk2 Academy joined Grounds For Sculpture for the private opening reception of Shantell Martin: Past, Present, Future, an exhibition exploring time, identity, memory, and our relationship to the spaces we inhabit.

In the coming months, Timbuk2 Academy students will study Martin’s work and take part in a collaborative project that will become part of the exhibition, bringing skills developed through their studies at Timbuk2 into a new creative space.

We look forward to working alongside the artists who will guide the process, and sharing what our students create as the work unfolds.

Our older girls swear the younger ones get all the favoritism at Timbuk2 Academy. But when one of our college students got her hands on a copy of Girl Problems!, written by our younger girls, she couldn't hide her reaction.

1 in 3 girls report being bullied or teased about their periods by classmates.

Over 67% of that harassment happens directly inside school hallways and 66% of girls suffer in silence.

Rather than waiting for adults to catch up, 12 pre-teen students ages 9-12 at Timbuk2 Academy took matters into their own hands straight from the classroom.

📖 Together, they created Girl Problems!, a published children’s book created in direct response to the shame, teasing, and silence surrounding puberty. A girl should never have to hide what her body does naturally. Our students wrote this story so no girl ever has to face that moment alone.
