🦸♀️⭐ 2025 Unsung Superhero in Education Spotlight: Ruth Krysinski
At the golden age of 96 years old, Ruth Krysinski - a cafeteria monitor at the Round Valley School in the Clinton Township School District - has wisdom to share. She encourages children to appreciate the good in life and reminds them that with a positive attitude, they can achieve anything they set their minds to.
Ruth was recognized as an Unsung Superhero in Education at an awards ceremony last October during NJSBA’s annual Workshop. Congratulations!

The presentation of this year's Janet S. Lobsenz Award held profound significance following the recent passing of the award’s namesake, just weeks before her 90th birthday. Established in 2002, this honor celebrates the legacy of the trailblazing NJSBA field representative and dedicated Bergen County board member.
In a moving tribute, Marie Bilik (former Executive Director of the NJSBA and a long-time colleague of Janet) presented the prestigious award to Heather Garcia, President of the Norwood Board of Education!
Heather truly embodies the spirit of this award through her outstanding contributions to her district:
🌟 Governance Mastery: Throughout her eight years on the Norwood Board, Heather has attained the highest tiers of the NJSBA Board Member Academy, including both Master Board Member (MBM) and Certified Board Leader (CBL) certifications.
🌟 Fiscal Innovation: Under her leadership, the board developed innovative in-district special education programs that saved the district over $1 million in a single year—reinvesting directly into student success.
🌟 Champion for Training: Heather is widely recognized for her heart for mentorship, guiding new trustees and ensuring the Norwood governance team remains highly trained, collaborative, and entirely student-focused.
