We are CHARGING along and Getting It Dunn. On September 24, 2026 we will host our annual Back to School Night. For those new to our school, we host our Back to School Night in Small Cohort Groups. You will have the opportunity to meet with your child's major content teachers in one room. The Night is broken into 3 parts of which you may attend 1 or 2. From 5:00 to 5:30 we host a HOPE/Parent meeting in the auditorium. This meeting allows you to meet the support staff and administration and we can answer any pressing questions or concerns you may have at the time. Then we hold 2 30-minute sessions that allow you to familiarize yourself with grading, behavior, homework and class participation expectations. Those times are from 5:45-6:15 and then 6:20- 6:50. When you are not in a session you can opt to meet your child's specialist and physical education teachers or any one of our community vendors. IMPORTANT- YOU MAY BRING YOUR CHILD TO BACK TO SCHOOL NIGHT. BUT SPACE IS LIMITED. BE SURE YOU ASK YOUR CHILD WHAT THEIR HOMEROOM IS OR THAT YOU HAVE ACCESS TO POWERSCHOOL TO KNOW THE NAME OF AT LEAST ONE TEACHER. This will assist you in locating your room

🌟 Welcome Back, Dunn Families! 🌟

We are excited to welcome our students back for another great school year! Here are a few important reminders to help everyone get off to a smooth start:

📚 Schedules & PowerSchool: Your child can access their PowerSchool account and class schedule. Students will also receive a printed copy of their schedule in their 1st period class.

⏰ Arrival: Students must be in their 1st-period class by 8:00 AM.

🏫 Early Arrival: Students arriving before 7:55 AM should report to:

- 8th Grade: Cafeteria
- 7th Grade: Auditorium

🥞 Breakfast: Grab-and-go breakfast is available to all students in their respective spaces.

📱 iPads: iPads will be distributed during Gym on September 10th and 11th. Students must keep their iPad in their red binder and bring the binder to school every day.

Thank you for helping us make sure our students are prepared, on time, and ready to learn. We’re looking forward to a fantastic school year together!

Students without a schedule should report to the Auditorium for support from Guidance Counselors, and the Vice Principal.

📵 PHONE-FREE SCHOOL REMINDER

As we begin the school year, please remember that New Jersey’s Phone-Free School expectations require students’ cell phones to be powered off and secured away during the school day.

Days 1 & 2 Priority: Our primary focus is making sure every student is in class, receiving instruction, and learning the expectations necessary for achievement. We want to establish strong routines from the start.

During 1st Period on Day 2, students will receive their Yondr pouch. Staff will support this process by:

- Reminding students of the expectation.
- Checking that the phone is powered off and secured in the pouch.
- Reinforcing that, for the remainder of the school year, the Yondr pouch must be kept in the student’s binder and brought to school daily.

Accountability moving forward:

- Confiscated phones will only be released to a parent/guardian.
- A lost or damaged Yondr pouch carries a $25 replacement fine.
- If the fine remains unpaid, the student must turn their phone in daily to Mr. Ruiz or Ms. Strong upon arrival.
- If a student arrives without their Yondr pouch, the phone must be turned in to Security upon arrival. Security will confiscate the phone and ensure it is turned over to Ms. Strong or Mr. Ruiz.
- Phones will only be released to a parent/guardian.

The standard is simple: If you do not have your Yondr pouch to secure your phone, don’t bring the phone to school.

Dear Dunn Families,

As we begin the school year, please monitor your child’s social media and device use. Social media can expose students to harmful content, harassment, bullying, threats, and unsafe individuals.

We encourage families to:

Know which platforms your child uses and review their accounts.
Use parental controls and safety features.
Ensure your child enters their correct date of birth.
Review who can contact or view your child.
Discuss appropriate online behavior and how to respond to inappropriate messages or images.
Set clear expectations and know passwords when appropriate.
Restrict overnight phone access. Phones should be unavailable from 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 a.m. and charge in a common area.
Monitor activity when concerns arise.
Online Behavior Has Real-World Consequences
Parents and guardians must take reasonable steps to prevent technology from being used to harass, bully, threaten, intimidate, or harm others. This applies whether your child is the target or the person engaging in the behavior.

If Dunn Middle School determines that a student is using social media or another digital platform to harm another student, the school will take appropriate action under law and district policy. Online posts, messages, screenshots, photos, videos, and threats can enter the school environment and have serious consequences.

Cell Phone Expectations at Dunn
Students may not use phones during the school day.

At Dunn, phones must be:

POWERED OFF AND SECURED IN THE STUDENT'S YONDR POUCH.

Phones used in violation may be confiscated and released only to a parent or guardian according to school procedures.

Please reinforce this expectation at home and contact the main office to reach your child during the school day. Our goal is to ensure technology is used safely and responsibly. Thank you for partnering with us to protect our students and maintain a safe, supportive school environment. Feel free to schedule a meeting if you require further clarification.
