Traverse City West MS Choirs

I'm so thankful to our Madrigal Singers for giving a few hours of their time this past Saturday to share in song and conversation with some senior citizens in our community at Bay Ridge Assisted Living and Independence Village Assisted Living. One of the most special moments was visiting with former West Choir Teacher, Tom Stokes, who spoke eloquently about how impressed he was with our singers! Here is the email I received from the Peter R. Marsh Foundation in coordination with the $1,500 grant they gave us.

The Foundation sincerely applauds your successful completion of the Middle School Music Grant program. This was a really lovely report to read and the photos are fantastic!

Your dedication has cultivated empathy, compassion, and a profound sense of community. By arranging these youthful musical and conversational gifts, you have undoubtedly made a lasting positive impact on your students and enriched the lives of seniors in your community. Please share with your students that we all appreciate their stellar participation and hope that they gained valuable life experience from the program.

I encourage you to share your successes and favorite experiences with peers across the nation and invite them to join this meaningful program. The Foundation also offers annual initiatives for high schools, including the Silent Servant Scholarship Award and the High School Pathways Club. Details about these national programs can be found on the Foundation’s website. Please bring these additional opportunities to the attention of the high school administration in your district. All the programs have experienced significant growth over the past few years, and the Foundation looks forward to even greater expansion in the future.

Stay tuned! Information about the 2026-27 Music Grant will be updated on the Foundation’s website in early July, with Grant Requests opening shortly thereafter. I look forward to collaborating with you in the upcoming school year!

Our FUNdraiSING has launched and we’re doing great! We’re hoping that tonight and tomorrow night will send us soaring into the sky! Thank you to all who have already helped either directly through donations or through reaching out to friends and family near and far! The students are doing such incredible work and we are really excited about the future of the West Choirs! The funds raised this spring will set us up for success this next fall and beyond! Day two of the MSVMA State Choral Festival did not disappoint! Two more “First Division” ratings and two of only seven all day out of 25 choirs! The 8th Grade Treble Choir earned 76/90 and the Tenor/Bass Choir earned 81/90. Both groups received many compliments for their performances both on and off stage. We had a ton of fun at Craig's Cruisers and we’re headed home with lots of great new memories, closer friendships, and scores to prove just how hard we’ve worked! Mrs. Wiliford and I are incredibly proud and grateful to have so many wonderful students and such a supportive community! A special shout out to all of our amazing elementary music specialists who instill a love for music at such a young age while developing skills leading to the potential for this level of success and to our HS colleagues who continue to inspire through exemplary performances and encouraging collaborations! It takes a village and we have a great one! !

What a day! The 7th Grade Treble Choir & Madrigal Singers represented incredibly well! Singing in a beautiful space with acoustics designed for singing was delightful! Both groups earned “First Division” ratings - 2 of only 5 choirs out of the entire day! At the MSVMA State Choral Festival, there are three judges scoring out of 30 (90 total points). 72-90 is a “first division” or “1” overall rating. The 7th graders earned 75/90 and Madrigals earned 84/90 with one perfect score of 30/30!! Beyond the stage, the students demonstrated incredible character waiting patiently and silently before warm-up, listening to other performances, and learning through the clinics after their performances. We also had a ton of fun afterwards at Craigs Cruisers! Day two tomorrow with the 8th Grade Treble Choir and the Tenor-Bass Choir! ❤️🎶😊
