TC East Middle School Band

On Saturday, April 18, the Trojan Band Program hosted its own Solo Festival for all 6th, 7th, and 8th grade band students. Each student prepared a solo that was performed in front of a master musician - and then each student received a 10 minute one-on-one clinic! We are proud of our students and their musical accomplishments!

We hope that you join us for our last TC East Middle School Band performance of the year - the annual Spring Band Concert on June 3 featuring all of the Middle School Bands.

The United States Air Force Academy Clarinet Quartet visited today, offering our 7th and 8th grade band students with an incredible performance. From classical to movie soundtrack music, students enjoyed listening to professional players performing while getting to ask questions regarding the Air Force and what it is like to be a musician.

Six of our 7th graders were selected to perform on the MSBOA District 2 Middle School Honor Band under the direction of Michael Emerson. They rehearsed all day at Kalkaska High School before performing in the evening. Congratulations to our students on a great performance!

Congratulations to both the 7th Grade Concert Band and the 8th Grade Symphony Band on their outstanding performances at the MSBOA District 2 Band and Orchestra Festival Evaluations!

Both Bands received straight 1st Division scores - the highest rating given out!

A special thank you to all of the parents, family, and community members who supported the bands tonight by attending the performances and chaperoning the kids.

The 6th Grade Honor Band had a fun day of 'touring' today with performance stops at Central Grade School and Traverse Heights Elementary. Great Job Band!

Selected for this year's 2026 MSBOA Middle School All-State Band, three of our students performed on Saturday, January 24 in Grand Rapids at the State Music Conference.

We had a fun afternoon at the Traverse City Tuba Christmas. All 5 of the Trojan tubas performed along with 2 of our euphonium players. Congratulations on a great concert for the community!

We are excited to announce our Annual Bake Sale and Silent Auction that will be taking place on Thursday, December 11 before and during our Winter Band Concert.

Silent Auction: With almost two dozen items donated, the East BPO silent auction will go live - online - on December 11. The link will be shared with you by email and here. The Silent Auction will run online from the morning through the end of the concert.

It was a fun night with the Trojan Band playing at the Downtown Traverse City Light Parade!

Each year, over 2500 students throughout Michigan try out to be part of the All-State Band, All-State Orchestra, or All-State Jazz Band - groups where the best students in the Michigan are selected to perform together. Students participated in a rigorous 'blind' auditions back in October.

We are extremely proud to announce the following students were accepted into the Middle School All-State Band:
--Brett Gerkin, 8th Grade - 1st chair tuba
--Brock Walter, 8th Grade - 2nd chair bass clarinet
--Graeme Chapman, 7th Grade - 2nd chair tuba.

And while not making it into the All-State Band, we congratulate:
--Dexter Truelove, 8th Grade trombone - Honorable Mention for his audition.

Our students will be joining 100 of the other All-State Band students in January for rehearsals and a performance at the Michigan Music Conference. Congratulations!!!
