AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE TO OUR FAMILIES:

Dear Grand Traverse Academy Families,

We have some important information to share regarding the Hammond Road construction project.

The good news: Hammond Road west of Three Mile Road is expected to be open to traffic at 1:00 pm tomorrow (Wednesday, September 23).

The challenging news: We were informed yesterday that beginning this Thursday morning (September 24), Hammond Road between Three Mile and Carlisle Roads will likely be closed. The Hammond Road entrance to GTA will remain accessible, however. This work is expected to be completed by the end of October.

Please be patient with one another, our staff directing traffic around the school and the construction crews, as we work through this temporary inconvenience. This is an opportunity for our GTA families to demonstrate the character we value in our school community. A little patience, kindness and grace can make a challenging situation easier for everyone.

One of the best ways we can help reduce the traffic is by carpooling. This situation presents a chance to connect with other GTA families and help reduce the number of vehicles coming through the school entrances each day. Our Carpool & Uniform Exchange Facebook Group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/930613170849541) is a great way to find a common meeting place and significantly reduce the number of cars on the road.

Yesterday, September 17, was Constitution Day, marking the 239th anniversary of the signing of the Constitution of the United States. Mark your calendars for Friday, October 16, when the Mustang athletics fundraising committee presents their annual Muddy Mustangs Fun Run! The cost to participate is $5 per person or $20 per family. Crazy costumes are encouraged, with prizes for best costume, muddiest runner and best family costume theme. On Thursday, September 17, students and staff may wear jeans (no holes or tears, please) with their uniform shirts for a $2 per person donation. Funds collected will help replenish our student lunch pantry for students in need or those who occasionally forget to bring their lunch to school. Participation is appreciated but always optional.

If you follow us on social media, you may already know that we have an extremely talented baker on our staff who makes and decorates an amazing cake each month in honor of staff birthdays. More impressive is that each one is more creative than the last. We have to say that today's cake, with a back-to-school theme, has to be one of the best!
