West High Air Force JROTC

It was my pleasure to present $9,139 in my District 5 Funds to the Merrill F. West High School Home Field Advantage Boosters Club in support of the West High Air Force JROTC program and campus improvement projects.

These funds will help students complete projects that enhance their campus, including repainting the baseball field and upgrading the weight room used by all West High student-athletes.

I appreciate the initiative these students have shown in taking pride in their school and giving back to their campus. Investing in our youth is an investment in the future of our community, and I’m proud to support projects that encourage leadership, teamwork, and school pride.

Congratulations to everyone involved, and thank you for making a positive difference at West High!

Air Force JROTC cadets took 1st place in the Black History Month Door Decorating Contest. The display featured Bayard Rustin, known for being a key strategist and mentor to MLK Jr., introducing Gandhian nonviolent resistance. Cadet Carranza used her artistic talents to create an amazing portrait. Cadet Sheppard gave the judging team a verbal presentation of Mr. Rustin’s biography and background. Cadet Fielding presented the principal factors that shaped Mr. Rustin’s life. Cadets Kabir and Gutierrez created graffiti art displays of his quotes. Thank you to the Black History Month committee for the opportunity to participate.
