Compassion in Action 💙 Sienna B. ’28 and Ryan M. ’29 spent three meaningful days with WIN Partner Carolyn Gugerty Hrdlick, RN, MBA ’84, founder of Assisting You in Your Home, LLC. Through hands-on experiences, the students learned about the journey of building a business centered on caring for others. They practiced handwashing techniques, explored how to support individuals with dementia, and discovered what it means to be a thoughtful, compassionate caregiver. From baking cookies to brighten patients’ days to helping with daily tasks and offering companionship, these Blazers saw firsthand the power of service with heart. Thank you, Ms. Hrdlick, for sharing your wisdom and showing our students how care can become a calling.

This past week, 12 Upper Level students traveled to Key Largo, Fla., for a hands-on experience in marine biology - literally! Students learned about the ecology and environmental threats to coral reefs, seagrasses, and mangrove forests. They then experienced these ecosystems first hand through snorkeling. Hands on lab activities included examining microplastics found in the ocean, viewing sponge spicules, and labs looking for microscopic zooplankton. Students also participated in restoration activities, such as collecting marine trash, and helping with a coral reef regeneration project. The Caribbean reef shark, nurse shark, southern sting ray, Pygmy octopus, mantis shrimp, sea hare, sea cucumber and sea stars were among the favorites! The educational activities that the students participated in taught them about the importance of engaging with the natural world that surrounds them.

School’s out for summer, but construction is in full swing. The new Huffman Commons is taking shape, and the countdown is on. When students return in August, they'll be welcomed by a beautiful new space built for connection, community, and growth.

Nora O. ’27 spent 24 hours with Dr. Elizabeth Donohoo ’03 and her colleagues at in Lutherville, MD. This WINternship gave her valuable experience about outpatient pediatrics, interacting with both the patients and their family members and educating parents on child safety and establishing healthy habits at a young age. She learned how to adapt to patient needs and fears to examine them in the most efficient way, observed patients ranging in age from newborns to adolescents for both check-ups and sick visits, participated in clinical evaluations and much more. Thank you Dr. Donohoo for this fantastic learning experience!

🙌🥇Congratulations to Flory T. '27 for winning the 2026 Congressional Art Competition for Maryland’s Second District.

Flory's winning entry, Sixteen, is a Prismacolor colored pencil drawing depicting a birthday cake illuminated by glowing candles. In the drawing, the birthday cake serves as the focal point of the composition, while a softly lit figure appears in the background, illuminated only by candlelight, allowing viewers to interpret the scene through their own experiences.

The artwork will be displayed for one year in the Cannon House Office Building tunnel at the U.S. Capitol, where it will be viewed by thousands of visitors, Members of Congress, and Capitol staff each day as they travel between office buildings and the House floor.
