How do we keep our fields weeded? It’s an all hands on deck kind of thing. Soil fumigation, specialty herbicides, hand weeding, cover crops, tillage, and this cool machine! It’s called Multivator.

We are looking for more Meyer spruce with cones to pick seed from, see photo. 🌲 We have grown and sold Meyer spruce here since 2004. The older the planting the better for collecting viable seed. This spruce was planted on site in 2007 from a 2 year old plug and is now reaching 20’ tall. More details in comments. Please contact Jeff of Dominic with info on Meyer plantings. Quaking aspen, species spotlight. Aspen are the most widely distributed deciduous trees in North America! They naturally grow from Alaska to northern Arizona and are native here in our state as well. Seed is collected each spring as the fluff starts blowing, usually in May. We typically grow 8,000 trees from seed in our greenhouse each year. The seed is very small, with over 170,000 seeds per ounce! Aspen like well drained, but moist soils,and once established they sucker to form a thicket, which is great habitat for wildlife. In good locations they grow over 3 feet per year! 🌳

Planting Seed Orchards for the Future. Our recent plantings include 3 Green Canyon Douglas fir trees developed at NDSU and 10 Meyer spruce trees that were started from seed here 5 years ago. These trees will yield cones in a few years, but viable seed production is anticipated to take approximately 15 years. Growing trees for tomorrow.😁🌲😎
