Free Forage Nitrate Testing Available

Drought and other plant stresses can cause nitrates to build up in forage, creating a risk for livestock. With more small grains being harvested for hay this year, testing before feeding is a smart management practice.

NDSU Extension offers free forage nitrate testing. Contact your local NDSU Extension office for sampling instructions and to submit a forage sample. Knowing nitrate levels can help you make safe feeding decisions.
