Hamilton FFA Agricultural Spotlight: Becca Rogers
As part of our New York FFA Association educational display at The Great New York State Fair, Hamilton FFA interviewed local individuals representing the eight pillars of agriculture. Today, we’re proud to feature Becca Rogers: Natural Resource Systems. 🙌🏻
For New York State DEC Officer Becca Rogers, a passion for aquatic life began right in the classrooms of Hamilton High School. Through her involvement in various agriculture classes—including Woodworking, Small Animal Care, Horticulture, Aquaponics, and independent studies—Becca discovered her true calling for fish and aquaculture. It was during these hands-on classes that she first learned about the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) and the vital role DEC officers play in protecting natural resources. 🎣
Driven by her newfound interest, Becca attended the University of Rhode Island to earn her degree in Aquaculture. She balanced a rigorous academic schedule with athletics, pitching as a Division I softball player for three years, while gaining practical experience working at several different fish hatcheries during her college years. 🥎 🐠
Immediately following graduation, Becca joined the DEC, where she has served for the past seven years. Her daily work directly strengthens the local agricultural ecosystem by improving natural water resources, restoring waterways, and replenishing fish populations in local streams. Her favorite fish to work with and protect remains the Brook Trout.
Active in the Hamilton FFA chapter during her senior year, Becca attributes much of her early direction to her ag education. Looking ahead, she sees herself continuing her career with the DEC, staying dedicated to supporting both the aquatic and agricultural industries for years to come. 👏🏻
